It will be revealed she's from Raxacoricofallapatorius and for most of the time feels supercalifragilisticexpialidocious... unless she's drunk and then calls up Mister Mxyzptlk for a date.

But in seriousness, why the Trek novels didn't standardize on one name - Lt. Rahda had the same problem with numerous writers wanting to be there first and it all ends up becoming an underwhelming, silly jumble. Like the previous paragraphs. If the redundant tautology was needed. Though with my convoluted nature it sometimes is...

A certain mystique, you might say.
My thought is this is probably how they'll actually go, and never actually give her a name.
I can even see them making a gag out of it, and when ever her name would come up, the character gets interrupted, or some other noise obscures it.

Number One's name is like Morn never being able to shut up.
I like the idea that the name is unpronounceable. Maybe Burnham looks at a pad with her name on it and asks, "How the Hell do you pronounce that?!" Then Pike says, "Don't even try, Commander. I just call her Number One."

The Ilyria thing has been cited in other novels as well, including mine. And "Una" is actually more of a nickname, since her Illyrian name is unpronounceable. Or at least that was our idea, following D.C. Fontana's lead.
And clearly she is descended from Penny on BIG BANG THEORY, whose actual surname has never been revealed.
Yeah, they'll be sticking with that. It's too much a part of Trek lore. Still, I've always liked Leigh Hudec. I used it a few times in some fan fiction I dabbled with as a kid. Then Dorothy Fontana came along with the whole Illyria thing. Unpronounceable?!? Oh well...
They have no reason to follow that, they'll ignore it if they want to.
A majority of fans probably don't even know that side lore.
I'd love it if Number One's last name was all consonants.
