good excuse for a film to be in space?

More like the seaborne version of the Death Star. (Although it could be a weaponised giant sea turtle...)

I went with sea turtle, because—I don't know. I remembered that there are myths about the backs of giant sea creatures being taken for islands (or islets) by shipwrecked sailors, and I just kinda ran with that.

Then there's that TV movie I saw as a kid: The Bermuda Depths.

'because its cool" its not much of an excuse to me.
don't get me wrong, its nice & all... but its not enough.

What would be a good excuse to set a film on Earth? Is "Because Earth is cool" a good enough excuse to NOT set a film in space?
