Giving STO Another Try

^^^Funny i did the same thing but with this 4th episode i am bored of this whole stuck at schoo thing, but i never watched the 4th episode until the end, so i missed the Klingon ships, but i bet i have them already. ha

Nope. But from ST: D time travel is outlawed and blocked. So it's a safe assumption.

*-I gave SFA 3 episodes.
The 1st was okay but the following two cemented that it IS SFA 90210 (IMO); and it's just not for me.
The third has been called the worst of the first 6 from the earlier reviewers. You should watch 4, or wait for 5 next week since some have called that really damn good.

I watch/read through everything the first time I play a mission or TFO, but if I need to do the stuff multiple times to get campaign progress, then yeah, I skip through all of it too. Cuts down playtime of the session by nearly half, sometimes more in some cases.

Thomas Marrone was on a stream today

'the (anniversary) event ship this year is a giant starship' 'some might say it's a juggernaut'

it's an alliance ship

They're planning to release ships from every Trek era this year because of the 60th anniversary

new canon Klingon and Romulan ships coming late in the year

^^^Oh and just a heads up, starting today for ST 60th, there will be freebiees to claim in the promo tab which will last 24 hours, so right now you can claim 2 free ultimate upgrades......so don't miss them.

In a Dev interview, it was said they wanted to use Starbase 80 from LDS instead of the MIDAS array because of the series finale placing it near a portal, but CBS/Paramount said it was off limits. No reason given why.

When they pivoted to the MIDAS array, they considered bringing in Barclay, but decided not to because of Dwight Schultz not being so great.

I n t e r e s t i n g...*strokes chin*, I mean it probably means nothing, but if they had plans for Starbase 80 and it was animated, I would hoover that right up. Without LD and Prod I'm going cold turkey over here!

Maybe I'm being greedy, but I'm longing for new hub to place all of my characters that isn't always ESD. Starbase 80 would fit that role perfectly, and it would have some TOS era aesthetics that can only really be found on K-13. I miss the 23rd century map after your TOS officer has been sent to the future..

Understandably, that's not what they meant, but its a shame that SB80 isn't available anyway.

When they started releasing the Alliance ships and provided the uniform, it felt like they were building up to a new Alliance Hub and reputation and when nothing came of it I was disappointed. That said, there's so much they could do with ESD and haven't. Whats the point of the Dance floor except for some roleplay? They could put some smugglers in there ala Trek III, you could go there to augment rewards on patrols or whatever - ESD, such a large space with nothing doing.

As you say, Starbase 80 would be a good call for getting that TOS aesthetic. One of the reasons I don't roll a lot of TOS characters in STO is because the TNG+ aesthetic of ESD breaks that kinda roleplay.

Back in the day, they made DS9 a hub for a couple Reputations (with their itms store NPCs there) and players went there quite a bit.

They also could have made Bajor a hub too, but once they put everything on menus where you could take missions without having to go to the physical NPC mission giver and put the dailies that reward Dil on Earth/Q'nos/New Romulus, they became the defacto hubs for their respective factions and Cryptic hasn't looked back.

I do not bother with ESD as it takes way longer to load in than DS9, which i my default space dock for doing everything toon related since they updated ESD.

Sol system has always taken ridiculously long to load, even with the newer consoles, and way before the most recent update. The map itself doesn't seem to be the bottleneck, it's all the different ship models and maps that need to be loaded at any given time. I've been online super-late at night (or early in the morning, depending on your POV) when not many others have been on and it loads pretty normally during those times. Inside the ESD isn't too bad either. I've noticed that page loading seems to happen in 3 steps:
  • Step 1: The STO remote server loads the "room" in which you're entering. If it's already loaded and cached from other recent usage, this part goes by quick. If nobody has been in that particular space for a while, it has been unloaded from server memory and needs to be reloaded before proceeding. This can also take a lot of time and next steps cannot proceed until the server gives a green light.
  • Step 2: Main map assets are being loaded into the console's/PC's memory.
  • Step 3: Ship models and maps loaded into the console's/PC's memory. This is the one that takes the longest at ESD. The "room" is always there, so Step 1 is quick. Earth, SD-01 and surrounding drydocks are also pretty quick to load (Step 2). We get to this step (3) with all the ships present and everything slows down, particularly at peak active hours.
But yeah, I agree, DS9 is generally the best home base location to be if you're a member of the Federation faction. It's always loaded and actively running, there's only DS9 and the wormhole, and there are a relatively small number of ships in that space at any given time.
