Giving Kelvin another chance

Can't tell if you're being sarcastic here.
Take a guess, consider Ricardo Montalban was browned up for the role in TOS. He was a White Hispanic, both his parents were from Spain, they were as Caucasian as Queen Liz and Cumberbatch. Southern Europeans are not a different race from Northern Europeans.

So do you think Bardem would have been a decent choice or not then? My hypothetical choice of him was based on him having a passing resemblance to Montalban and being a great actor more than anything.

Yes he is a great actor but I would not expect him to play the part of Doctor Martin Luther King Jnr, President Barack Obama, Malcolm X, Gandhi or anyone else with a much darker skin tone, even if its a fictional character. There is a reason why most actors who play Othello actually look like a Moor. I would hope the casting mindset of the 1960's would not be used in the 2000's, however in the case of STID I guess famous white actor overrode not so famous Indian/Asian actor. Next reboot of Star Trek TUC why not get Gywneth Paltrow to darken up and play Uhura? She is a good actor as well. Or maybe Chris Pine can play Black Panther in the sequel.

But... Both montalban and bardem are both white, one Spanish, the other mexican.

The issue for me is the original character's TOS make up, not the casting IMO.

I don't want to derail this thread any further if I'm honest. I know this is a can of worms that doesn't need opening for the millionth time. :techman:
