Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

I'm of the mindset of, "Yeah. I'm going to go ahead and enjoy Discovery NOW. Rather than wait until 2040."

At the end of the day, I wanted one new Star Trek series back in 2017, I didn't ask for six. I happened to become a fan of two. So, one more than I could've asked for at the beginning of Kurtzman Era.

I expect I'll be into some stuff more than other stuff, but that's with any era. That's the way it's always been for me with anything, not just with Trek. Hasn't mattered if it was the '80s, '90s, 2000s, or Today.

Saying "Everything after ____ sucks!" is just stupid. On the flip side, saying "Everything before ____ sucks!" is stupid as well.

I have generally enjoyed all ST series to some degree or another. I don't recall ever getting to the point where I was thinking, this is so bad I should stop watching. But if it got to that point, I'd be out!

That being said, when I'm watching a series, I'm certainly aware of how it compares to other series and how likely I am to ever rewatch it. There are some I enjoy more than others. So there might be a ST series I watch and enjoy to some degree, but not enough to ever rewatch it.

Outside SNW and LD, most modern Trek falls into that category for me along with VOY. Although, I rewatched DIS S2 partially, including the finale, and thoroughly enjoyed in preparation for SNW.

But of course everyone's list is different. You can't expect everyone to like all of Trek and it's great that we have a variety to choose from!

Yup, that's how it works for me. I take a show how it comes and if I like it, great. If not, off to the next thing.

And I don't tend to compare show to show. A show is either entertaining in its own right or not.

VOY was less my sensibilities and personality than ENT became so I liked the latter more, but there's good stuff in every Trek series going back to 1966. And downright AWFUL in every solitary one of them.

Trek's a buffet, and not everyone always wants the weird seafood salad. But someone will love it. THAT'S why they keep serving it.

I’d like to speak to the manager…;)

I definitely preferred ENT over VOY. I will say that I always thought VOY looked great in both the set and ship design. But if I was at the ST buffet, I'd remove the VOY chunks from my plate!

But, sigh, even TOS and DS9, my favorites, have stinkers.

I like some series better than others, I can find good in all, even Lower Decks. Voyager is my least favorite live action Trek, Enterprise is better, Discovery better than any of those.

Even though I don't watch the old series much anymore, every once in awhile I'll get a wild hair and watch an episode. I don't think that'll ever stop.

I'm all for people changing their minds. But not for revisionism

I like some of NuTrek (I still haven't gotten into LD much), and even though a lot it isn't to my liking, I won't just assume any new show is going to be bad.

One of the Pinewood Stages was renamed 'The Star Trek' stage in honour of Discovery filming there for 5 years.

Wonder why they're just announcing this now considering that's a season 5 cast photo, it would have been renamed back in 2022, or maybe 2023 when doing the new ending.

Edit:
Wait
the actor who plays Bryce is in that cast photo
in a present day Starfleet uniform. I guess he shows up again this season other than the time travel episode.

Detmer and Owosekun will bring Bryce with them, when they come back. Possibly on the newly refurbished Enterprise. Insert suffix letter here. Rhys will be like, "I'm so jealous of you all!" Because it'll look like the 23rd Century Enterprise except with a 32nd Century skin. ;)

Wild rampant speculation, so take this with a grain of salt.

Yeah...they name the stage after the franchise. I'm thinking it's not going anywhere soon.

Thanks Discovery

Episode 7 has accidentally gone live on Paramount+ Canada

Given the turmoil going on at the top of Paramount Mountain these days, seems like more than a few departments lack a proper hand on the helm.
