Spoilers Game of Thrones - Season 7

The trouble with killing Sansa is that she is the only one with the brains to prepare for winter. They should have been gathering supplies for years (in a universe in which winter can last for more than a decade), but Ned "Winter is coming" Stark really dropped the ball.

Honestly, though, I'm surprised anybody bothers to stay in the North for a multi-year winter when there are supposedly places in Westeros that never see snow.

Maybe they haven't seen snow in a while. Could get cold in Dorne once winter hits.

Reading up on the current situation with the hurricane in Texas (and Katrina In New Orleans way back) it's par for the course.. you can tell people for weeks and months that a disaster is coming and they will either not believe you or are stubborn and won't leave their home (even if there's nothing they can do to protect it once nature starts to roll the dice).

So now there are thousands trapped in their homes and rescue services are strained to get to them all before their lives are truly endangered all because they didn't want to leave (and also endangering the lives of their rescuers).

People are stupid.

I love it when nerds are also science geeks. Vox analyzed the entire show and presented the color spectra breakdown of every single episode.

Get hype.

There goes the Wall.

I was a bit suspicious when Euron gave up so easily.

Good riddance to Littlefinger. I am glad that Arya was only acting like she did to fool him. Also please the Yohn Royce sided with Sansa and Arya against him.

Did Thormund and Beric get out?

I am now sure that Cleganebowl will take place next season sometime.

Good on Jaime for walking away from Cersei.

I wonder how Jon and Dany will react to him really being Aegon Targaryen. Does it mean that by the time Lyanna died to was aware that Rhaegar and Elia's son also called Aegon was dead? Will Dany accept that Jon's claim to the throne is greater than hers?

And where is Gendry?

What an episode. A lot of good dialogue scenes and the actors (especially Lena Headey) really brought their A-Game.

During that steamy, Jon x Dany scene, all I could think about was this.

Also, Rhaegar named Jon after his great, great, great ancestor Aegon The Conqueror. Wild stuff.

About Rhaegar: Did anyone else think the actor they got to play Rhaegar looked just like the actor who played Viserys from season 1?

Littlefinger's death, and by Arya's hand and by Sansa's command, was the most satisfying death in the show since Joffrey's. I'm glad those of us who suspected that Arya's confrontation with Sansa wasn't all that it appeared to be, but I will admit it could've been handled better. To suddenly reveal that they had been talking with Bran about the true nature of things before the public confrontation was a bit sloppy on the writing's part. It was satisfying for certain, but it could've been presented in a more nature fashion.

That final scene was exactly what I was expecting. That doesn't take away from the sheer HOLY FUCK of the situation, but it was expected nonetheless. Things are going to be very ugly in the final season. I'm really happy zombie Viserion had a blue flame! Even hotter than a red flame!

So the producers really went there. Fully revealing Jon's nature during a montage of him fucking Daenerys. I wonder how that will fare with the general audience, despite Cersei and Jaime. And did I hear Bran right? Aegon Targaryen or was it something else (I'm sure I'll find out when I read the previous posts).

So Jaime has finally reached his breaking point with Cersei. I wonder where he's riding to? To find his brother? Or to his forces encamped somewhere to fulfill his pledge to fight the dead? He has always been a man foremost concerned about honor.

As accredit to the episode, I only reach to one of my favorite parts of the whole episode: So many happy (and not so happy) reunions at the beginning of the episode! Tyrion and Bronn! Tyrion and Podrick! Bronn and Podrick! Brienne and the Hound (and is that begrudging respect I detected?)! The Hound and the Mountain (no Cleganebowl but it feels promised now)! Tyrion and Cersei! Brienne and Jaime! Sam and Bran! That being said, I'm not really sure what was the point of having Brienne and Podrick there other than to have the requisite reunions, and further, where are they going now?

Rhaegar had two kids named Aegon? Heh.
I haven't read the books, but from what I've been told, Rhaegar may not have loved Ellia Martell, the same way she loved him. The same way that Lyanna Stark wasn't really into Robert Baratheon, or her betrothal to him.

So Rhaegar and Lyanna runaway and get married in secret (all Romeo and Juliet like), and Rhaegar decides to give his new son a famous name from the Targaryen dynasty that he's already given his son from a previous marriage.

It should be said that Rhaegar's children with Ellia Martell were not that old. Rhaneys (the girl) was 3 years old and Aegon (Martell/Targaryan) was less than 2 years old (possibly 18 months since he still slept in a crib) when they were murdered by the Mountain and the Lannisters.

I was a bit suspicious when Euron gave up so easily.
I must admit, I actually believed him to be a coward. But who knows, maybe Cersei is full of shit. And I'm still not convinced she's actually pregnant. She's good at convincing others that she's pregnant but I wonder if she's also fooling herself.

I wonder how Jon and Dany will react to him really being Aegon Targaryen. Does it mean that by the time Lyanna died to was aware that Rhaegar and Elia's son also called Aegon was dead? Will Dany accept that Jon's claim to the throne is greater than hers?
I don't think the timeline lines up right for that, at least from the book's perspective. I would have to look it up, but I think the sacking of King's Landing occurred after Lyanna's death. Although, if that's true, was Ned carrying Aegon/Jon with him when he confronted Jaime at the Iron Throne. Yeah, I'll have to look up how closely those events line up. But either way, I'm doubtful Lyanna could know about Aegon's (supposed) death.

And where is Gendry?
Funny how quickly we've returned to that question.

Rhaegar had two kids named Aegon? Heh.
So it would seem, although that raises the question of whether this was the name Benioff and Weiss chose or did they get it from Martin? The show has completely omitted the Young Griff storyline, so from the perspective of the show, having Jon's real name be Aegon isn't awkward. But if the name comes from Martin, I wonder what his reasoning is for Rhaeger naming two of his children after the same person. It's true he didn't love Elia as much as he loved Lyanna, but it still seems like an awkward naming choice.[/QUOTE]

A little odd taking down the ice wall with ice but that rather upped the timetable on all this, no? Is there even time for anything else to happen at this point?

EDIT: Looking at some recaps I guess it was blue fire not ice which makes more sense for sure. I guess the blue with all the rest of the winter stuff I thought it was supposed to be an icy blast. I'm a dumbass, lol.

I think Aemon would have been a better name. It think Jon would like it better as well.

Did Rhaegar name his first son Aegon in honour of Aegon the Conqueror or in the honour of Aegon V his great grandfather? Aegon V died the day Rhaegar was born and in the books Rhaegar was happiest when in the ruins of Summerhall where Aegon V had died. Also Aegon V allowed his children to marry for love so that might have influenced Rhaegar.

Who was the actor who played Rhaegar? Was it Harry Lloyd or just an actor who looked a lot like Harry Lloyd?

Yeah, Aemon definitely would've been a better choice from Jon's perspective, but would Rhaegar have any reason to go for it? I can't remember if he ever met his great great uncle.

Yeah, I wondered the same. I think it was just an actor made to look similar to Harry Lloyd.

This finale was awesome for many reasons, chief amongst them being that Littlefinger is FINALLY DEAD. Game of Thrones has finally made me as happy as a pig in sh*t by killing off the one character they've NEEDED to kill off for the past 5 seasons, and in spectacularly awesome fashion.
