Game Of Thrones Season 5 TV Only Discussion (Spoilers)

Apparently the canonical spelling of them is 'Wight Walker'.

I was at bar trivia this week and used the team name 'White Walker Porn' for which we got called out for not calling it 'Wight Walker Porn'. Is that how it's spelled in the books?

At the end of season 2 it seemed like Sam was spared due to not being a threat. But given this battle, that explanation doesn't feel like it holds up.

Has Tommen really not thought of just killing them all? Mike Huckabee has taken both his wife and his mother prisoner. He's still just hanging out in his keep moping about it?

Just this once, maybe it's time for him to channel his brother.

No, it's definitely White Walker. The trivia folks were simply incorrect; I'd stake good money on it. "White Walker" has been the way it's written in every single official blurb on the show since inception. "Wights" also exist in the show -- they're the undead zombie-esques and whatnot that the White Walkers control. But... y'all have been over that, of course.

In the books the term "White Walker" does not exist. They're referred to as "the Others."

They are also called "White Walkers" on a few occasions, the name isn't original to the show. "The Others" is the more common term though.

I'd wager there are a lot of show-only folks (the vast majority who just watch and chat about it, not necessarily the learned and intelligent ones who post on messages boards such as this) who completely conflate White Walkers and Wights. As they appear to be on their way to being more important to the plot, hopefully the writers can emphasize the distinction to a greater degree in the future.

I don't really believe that viewers can get confused about the use of Others or Walkers in TV shows, i refuse to believe they're that dumb to mix up shows just because the same names are being used.

Others in Lost and GoT are two totally different things, one must be braindead to confuse them.

Walkers.. well, in colloquial terms people might confuse "simple" Undead from GoT with Zombies but does it really matter? I believe people can spot the difference between GoT and Walking Dead.

A side note.. i just rewatched the Hardhome battle and especially the end with the standoff between the Night King and Jon and how effective it was without music. I think it was a very good choice to totally omit any sounds except the natural sounds of the event unfolding.

They did the same with the death of Ned Stark and it was equally effective to strike home the notion that we are seeing a monumental and tragic event.

Way to much time wasted with Arya this week. She looks from the left, she looks from above, she looks from behind a screen. Ok we get it move along with the story. Now the rest of the episode was terrific and for the last ten minutes I had a huge smile on my face. Just awesome!

...the whole point is, I think, that it's dangerous to root for anybody. You can sort out who to dislike least when the dust clears lol.

A bit meh for an episode 9. I've never been a fan of Daenerys and her plots so I wasn't that into the ending as maybe I should have been. And I was hoping for a second there we might actually see Arya actually do something this season, but alas. Hopefully next week.

Still, things got a bit heated for some people though...

@Bold

Yeah, Arya discover Ser Meryn Trant's "tastes", was a tense scene.

Oh wait, you're talking about Shireen of the House Baratheon, aren't you?

Haha.... oh god. What a nightmare.

When that raven from Andalzon.com delivers Stannis' Father's Day gift from Shireen in a couple weeks, it's going to seem kind of ironic.
