Way better than the series premiere.

Mainly because it was focused on the show's main universe with all our characters. I hope we don't have too many episodes in the red universe with crazy Olivia trying to remember who she is this season. I'm not sure how I feel about that plot yet.

Also Walter now owns Massive Dynamic. Awesome!

Nothing more romantic than making out on a couch with blood trickling from under the doorway.

whose blood was it? i came in late.

what is interesting is not only does the two olivia's act different frankly in a way they look different.
subtle differences in how the makeup is contored..
add in the behaviour differences peter bishop and astrid are looking a little silly.

So the sciences mentioned in the opening credits are the same for both universes now (wormholes, singularity, transhumanism, reanimation, telepathy, etc.). I wonder if that's a clue about something.

That a third universe wants them both destroyed? :)

So if Peter scores with Alt-Liv, how awkward is THAT going to be when the real Dunham comes back?

"Yeah Olivia, about us..."

He's gonna have a talk with "Helo" Agathon about that. :p

Another great episode. Season 3 has really started strong. The people who lament the lack of quality Sci-Fi on television nowadays and that the networks (Fox especially) aren't giving Fringe the support it deserves have no one but themselves to blame when quality shows can't make it.

Some pretty moving moments with Walter, who's really become the heart and soul of the series. His pain and conflicted feelings about Peter and what he did continue to be a main theme and their scene where Walter tries to reconcile or at least explain what happened was pretty powerful. The show has really found a nice balance between the action, the relationships/heart, the science/sci-fi and mystery that it didn't (and couldn't) have early on.

Walter receiving control over Massive Dynamic was expected (to me) but still very exciting. Not quite the same as Angel taking over W&H, but still pretty massive. (Pun intended).

Anna Torv is really starting to shine in a role that I didn't care for us much in Season 1. She's showing a lot of range and is starting to really flourish in this dual-role. Peter Jackson, whom I really didn't buy in Season 1 has become a much more central piece and as awkward as his inclusion into the FBI and Fringe division has been from a story-perspective early on, now that they've got him where they want him, I'm starting to enjoy him.

All in all, an 8.9/10. Strong episode and really continues to set up this season well. Here's hoping for 3 more strong seasons of a great show.

Probably not - it may be an oversight. The last time we saw alternative Fringe credits, there were some different technologies and areas of research listed. Here is a clip from the credits last season: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzdHu_cCZIA

Note one interesting item: First People. This item intrigued me when I first saw it - But then in this episode the machine is said to use some sort of 'ancient' technology.
- Could some of the machine parts be 'first people' artifacts?
- Are the 'first people' and 'observers' linked?
- Did the 'first people' cause these two universes to split?
- And how long ago did these 'first people' exist?
Interesting questions... Hopefully answered in the series at some point.

Other techs mentioned in this intro clip that I believe are unique to the alt. universe: Hive Mind, Protoscience, Cryonics(?)

Here's the opening credits for episode 3x01. The sciences are the same for "our" universe intro in 3x02.

Good excuse by Folivia to explain why she's acting differently. Though I wonder how long her act and ignorance of everything that happened to Olivia can hold up?

On one hand, this doesn't seem like the kind of show that would try to drag the plotline out for too long. If anything, they would figure out who she is and try to play along.

On the other hand, it's clear that Walternate wants them to create the doomsday device (and that will be a lot easier with Walter owning Massive Dynamic) on their side and that has to be saved for the end of the season.

So, on to the really important question. Will Walter be successful in making a cow that produces chocolate milk?

Walter will discover that Walternate's doomsday device also turns cows into chocolate milk producers, so Walter will have a really tough choice to make.

In the season two finale, they mention that humans in the ancient past were capable of far more cognitively than they are now, but that potentially aliens removed these abilities from the human genome. Bell and Walter's cortexiphan trials unlocked some of these former abilities. Perhaps the ''first people'' are either the aliens who removed the abilities or the humans who possessed said abilities.

This is also starting to remind me of the show Charlie Jade, that featured three primary parallel universes in addition to observer-like people from yet another universe. Perhaps the Fringe observers are from yet another parallel universe?

I'm glad to see that someone else is intrigued by this whole First People thing. There was a blurb in TV Guide two weeks back that indicated that we've already been introduced to them, that they're imbedded in the show, and that they're NOT the Observers.

I can't help but wonder if the Bowling Guy (can't recall his name at present) is one of them. He seems to have an intriguing past, and he told Olivia that he was 'older than he looks'.

I'm just sayin'.

Fringe is the best sci-fi series on right now. I just wish more people were watching it. I wonder how the ratings are with DVR viewership added to the mix.

Since our Walter was the first to crossover between the universes, that raises the question of how the parts for the doomsday machine can be both universes. The Alt-universe infiltrators certainly didn't bring them over; they're trying to retrieve them. That means that Walternate did NOT invent the doomsday machine (since some parts are "here").

Do we know for certain that this IS a doomsday machine? Is it possible that it is supposed to be some sort of bridge between the universes, or unite them or something? And Peter is the main cog of it? The Observer was pretty clear that ONE Peter had to survive (because he was a part of the machine?). Perhaps the machine could be destructive if used one way, but constructive if used another--and Peter is at the crux of it all.

And I thought the season two finale made an issue of William Bell building the doomsday device? Oh well, it hardly matters.

If Walter is mentally incompetent and in Peter's custody, it is Peter who controls Massive Dynamic. (And Massive Dynamics is still incredibly inept for a name.)

Why haven't they rebuilt Walter's old window, to get intel on the opposition? I thought that was why the Secretary was so hot to have an Olivia in place, to keep this side thinking the other Olivia is where she should be? And why aren't they pursuing cortexifan training for Olivia? Except that it would short circuit the plot, that is.

Olivia isn't interesting. Peter and Olivia, by extension, aren't interesting. Walter, and Walter and Peter, are interesting. Peter could be interesting if he was allowed to have an interest in his mother or his real origins but Olivia shows him a drawing and it's back here, pronto. The writers bungled the climax of season two and the damage is going to weigh down season three for an indefinite period.

Below average.

Pretty good. It has a steady following and it's the only show FOX has had on Thursdays in years that didn't bomb.

I'm surprised the ratings are holding at all given the stiff competition. It has the most competitive night of the week.

I guess Fringe has a very loyal and devoted fan base. Hopefully we'll get at least another season after this one maybe even 2 more if we're lucky.
