Both of them were the best parts apart from Frasier himself. Alan was actually hilarious but i liked how he set Frasier straight with his own expertise, showing that he's a professional too and not just a weird grouchy old man ( and then still slipping in some funny by hedging his bet
).Now just improve the characters of both sons and give them something better than being a Niles' copy and the disgruntled son and we could get something really good.
I love cantankerous old fart Alan! Nicholas Lyndhurst is brilliant so far.
I've quite enjoyed the first two episodes. David is quite the chip off the old block and feels very Niles-y.
I almost cried seeing the memorial for John Mahoney.
I like that in this revival though, Frasier is playing the outcast in the family, almost coming full circle with the original.

Yeah. I liked that scene a lot too. In the pilot, they make jokes about Alan not knowing his students so you think Alan is a bad teacher or does not care about teaching. But in that scene, we see that Alan is an excellent psychiatrist in his own right, Frasier's professional equal. I think that was important for the character to give him credibility so the audience will respect him.
I know the Niles actor has said he won't return but I really hope he agrees to do a cameo in an episode. I want to see Niles and David on screen together. I think that could be hilarious. Just imagine seeing father and son, mimicking each other's patterns, it could be great comedy.
Give David a psychic flash if you want him to feel like a Moon.

I only saw the first episode. I liked it quite a lot. Toks Olagundoye having an American accent took me a moment to register.

Didn't Daphne say the psychic ability is only in the Moon women?
We got this a day later on this side of the pond so after a false start last night, my wife and I watched it tonight. We both enjoyed both episodes. The new cast are very good and we especially enjoyed David (hoping for a bit more of him in subsequent episodes).
Not 100% sure of Nicholas Lyndhurst’s character (though NL is of course a legend over here) but maybe he’s drawn a bit broadly for American tastes, a bit like Daphne.
Kelsey is on great form. If I had a criticism of the original show, it was that he could be a bit OTT at times, much broader and louder than DHP. But he’s a lot more relaxed and subtle here, while still feeling like Frasier. Which, indeed is true of the show as a whole; new cast, new setting, it feels like Frasier. And that’s as much as we can ask for.

I imagine they'll eventually have him (among other cameos) during a Thanksgiving episode given that would be a perfect opportunity, and that kind of scenario would fit perfectly for something like that. I could easily imagine a slow build-up of annoyances until Niles confronts him.
Niles: Excuse me, what are you doing?!
David: *Stares in bafflement for a moment before resuming*
Niles: You're being me. Stop it.
David: That's ridiculous, Dad. I'm my own person!
*both move with the same maneurisms in unison*

David: Nothing of the sort.
Niles: Oh, for heaven's sake, David! *goes to pick up a pair of shoes to put them on*
David: Dad. Those are mine.
*Niles grunts as he tries to force his bigger feet into a smaller pair of shoes*
Niles *out of breath* No, that's... impossible. I've had these shoes since the day you were born.
*David grabs him by the shoulders, turns him and points* Those would be yours, Dad, right where you left them after coming through the door.
*scene fades as we see a shoe flying through the air almost hitting David as he ducks, then we hear a crash on a black screen.*

What if Niles has changed and his son is now more like the Niles we knew than the Niles that is NIles in 2023. All those years living away from Fraser and living with Daphne has changed him. The fun would be the idea of being around Fraser again makes him sort of want to revert to his old self. Meanwhile Niles son is more like Niles when he is not around his dad but when his Dad is around he becomes kind of rebellious like lots of young people and is more like Frasers son.
So, I've seen the first episode via Paramount+'s Youtube channel where they've made it available. All in all, not bad. The characters could certainly grow on me. I think what helps are the connections to the previous series, which doesn't just feel like nostalgia, but rather grounds it. I'm rather amazed at how easily Kelsey Grammar has stepped back into the character, to the point that it feels like he hasn't skipped a beat 20 years later. I still feel like this would have been better served as a miniseries however. And not to sound too hard to the new characters, but it only makes me yearn more for the other ones, almost like these new characters are the guest-stars to their own show.
Frasier sure did keep that tan going while in Chicago.
Ep 3 was ok. I think it relied too much on the characters making snarky remarks at each other for laughs. I did really like the premise a lot. It gave us some nice backstory into what Frasier did in between the "Good night Seattle" finale and this new show. We got to see Frasier's TV show. We see that Frasier's TV show started off as a mild talk show but evolved into some over the top morning variety show. There was some nice commentary there on how the pursuit of ratings can push shows to get more crazy. We delve into Frasier's psyche a bit. He wants to get away from the showmanship of his TV show. He also wants to get away from the quick bite advice he did on his radio show. He wants to make a real impact. We also see that the department head hired Frasier because he is a TV celebrity and she is hoping it will boost the department. That is another nice commentary on how many Ivy League school work where they try to get big names to help with fundraising. There were a few references to the OG show and even to Cheers. Freddy and Eve are basically the B plot. Frasier is the A plot. I did like the "Crane's Speech" segment.
Go back and listen for your self, but I think, and some one on Reddit thinks that David Hyde Pierce may have been the voice of the Hockey table in episode 2.
