Imagine you're a Starfleet Admiral given the chance to name a new vessel after an historical figure from Earth's history, from 20th century or earlier. (It's a reasonably decent ship by the way, not an Oberth or anything.) Who would be your first choice to be honoured with a Starfleet vessel?

Well, I'm not a Starfleet Admiral and I'm not quite sure what that's like so I'll just say what my personal first pick would be (without kidding): Douglas Adams.

I probably wouldn't name it after anyone at all. Both in Trek and in the real world, I much prefer ships that aren't named after people. Names like Enterprise and Defiant. The current trend of naming aircraft carriers after presidents, for example, really annoys me.
