What is your favorite opening credit sequence from a Star Trek show? You can base this off the opening music, the visuals, and/or some other reasons I'm not thinking of. If you want, explain your reasoning. You can vote multiple times if there's a tie.

For me, it's DS9's all the way. Love the heck out of that one. Part of it is because I love the show itself so much, but even on its own, the theme (both versions of it) is so great.

Why the hell isn't "In a Mirror, Darkly" on the list? That one's my favorite.

Honestly, because I totally forgot about it. I added it to the poll.

Nostalgia urges me to vote for TOS, but, honestly, VOYAGER's credit sequence was a thing of beauty. The slightly wistful theme music meshes perfectly with the stunning astronomical vistas, while conveying the idea of a one lone ship out in the vast depths of space, encountering amazing wonders. It's so good that I seldom want to fast-forward through it.

There's another anomaly, that of TNG Season 5 where the opening credits had a trailing shadow. That might be a separate entity.

I tended to only included separate categories for a show only if there was a major difference, such as a change in the music and/or the visuals. I didn't think minor changes like fonts or changes in the cast list necessitated a separate listing.

I voted for DEEP SPACE NINE Seasons 1-3. It had that amazing comet streaking through and then we glimpse the far-away shot of a lonely-looking space station, while a lone trumpet plays the fanfare. Brilliant.

I voted for both DS9 options and Voyager. If you forced me...I would pick Voyager.

This whole post is fantastically apt.

Voyager & DS9 have two wonderful symphonic pieces [that I listen to regularly] and DS9 is my favourite...thing...ever. But Voyagers intro is so so fantastic that is just pips DS9's. Voyager's intro is gorgeous: it really emphasises the vast, empty nature of the space and the wonders all at the same time while musically, it conveys feelings of struggle, being lost, but also of optimism and determination. It even blends in the traditional 'warp-out' seamlessly.

Yes, but DS9 has a rock.

If I may be really petty, season 2 of TNG's intro had a slightly different sound to both season 1 and seasons 3-7.

It has to be Voyager. It's just stunning and the theme is beautiful.

I agree wholeheartedly.

Voyager's is a beautiful series of shots. Though I also like DS9 4-7, especially the altered music, as it shows off the amazing architecture of the station as well as it's growing importance in the quadrant (the fact that there are now numerous ships using it).

Although I have little love for Voyager overall, I've got to admit it had a truly beautiful credits sequence, and a lovely theme. It was played at my wedding.

There's another anomaly, that of TNG Season 5 where the opening credits had a trailing shadow. That might be a separate entity.
And over its first three seasons, Deep Space Nine, strictly speaking, had three different credit sequences:

The credit sequence for season three, which added the Defiant, the credit sequence for the pilot episode, which did not have the wormhole, and the credit sequence for season two and (the rest of) season one, which had the wormhole but not the Defiant.

But yeah, on reflection, Jay Chattaway's sweeping orchestral score and the shots of the Voyager soaring through fantastic space vistas is the one to beat for me.

I can see on an asthetic level why the Voyager credits are getting so much love, the visuals are great and the music quite nice. But for me it's just so sedate. There's the ship just sort of tootling along at its own casual speed without a care in the world. The TOS and TNG credits are more straightforward, but having the ships zapping past gives them more ooommph and feels more appropriate for an action adventure show. It also doesn't feel right for Voayger's basic format of a ship on a desperate quest to get home, "Well, we'll just sort of potter about looking at the scenery and hope it turns out OK", which I suppose is at least reflective on what Voyager became...

Purely for nostalgic reasons I've gone for TNG. Those little people in the observation lounge!

"I've got faith...of the heart...goin' where my heart will take me..."

I actually love that theme, which I know puts me in the minority here. So I voted for Enterprise. But I also voted for TNG 3-7, because I love the Picard monologue.

I considered voting for the Mirror, Darkly Enterprise opening, too, but as cool as it was, I can't help but think every time I see it that there should have been a corruption of the regular theme involved, too. "We took the wrong road... gettin' from there to here..." ;)

Never really understood voting for more than one choice so, despite being a lover of TOS first, and despite really loving a few of the opening credits, I ended up choosing DS9 seasons 4-7 as my best of the best.
