I 100% agree with the post that it should be like this:

1. The Original Era: 1966-1974: TOS & TAS

2. Bigscreen + TV Reboot: 1979-2005: TOS Movies, TNG, DS9, TNG movies, VOY, ENT.

3) Kelvin era: 2009-2016: 3 movies/no TV

4) Streaming Era: 2017

After 5 years of nothing, once the TOS movies started, the longest fallow period was between TMP & TWOK (1980 & 1981). Plus, the TNG started the year after TVH. TNG overlapped DS9. The TNG movies started the year the show ended, and also overlap DS9, VOY, & ENT. And DS9 & VOY also overlapped.

I voted for the 66-86 era, because of TOS, obviously, but I group together all of Roddenberry and his direct successors (there's a "direct lineage" of sorts from Roddenberry even all the way to Manny Coto), and then the reboot era (i.e., 2009 to present).

Or they don't bother with archaic BBSs.

This. Message boards are mostly being used by us "older" folks. Most people here grew up in either the Berman era or the 60s era, so, of course these two get the most votes. If this poll was being conducted in an environment with mostly younger Trek fans in their early and mid 20s, you'd probably get entirely different results.

Frankly, it's looking even more obvious that the newer Trek will not have the staying power of the earlier Trek.

Unless a large number of new-Trek fans are not responding to the poll. JJ Trek et. al. is doomed.

Give it another 10-15 years. People will get nostalgic for it and reevaluate it in the same way fans generally now see Voyager and Enterprise in a positive light—and the way, to reference another Star franchise, many SW fans actually praise the prequel trilogy now.

I'm a younger Trek fan by your definition and I voted TOS era but I guess I'm atypical

Oh, that's quite obvious. The face of the franchise remains characters and stories from a TV series 58 years old. TOS is the only true cultural phenomenon in the Star Trek franchise, and it proves this with its staying power across that aforementioned 58 years.

None of the Berman series--including TNG are cultural icons (whether compared to TOS or not). TNG/DS9/VOY/ENT are all quite old series (37 years / 31 years / 29 and 23 years, respectively) , yet they have failed to soar to the level of becoming a cultural phenomenon, or well ingrained in the tapestry of those few entertainment properties that have a cultural life far beyond the original source. 2025 is only a month away, and the Berman series are that much older, yet whatever appreciation any of the series have among ST fans, it did not transcend their native medium like TOS, which happened not long after the latter's cancellation.

That does not paint a promising picture for longevity or being embraced by more than just the die-hards.

I don't condider Voyager or Enterprise as bad.
But in comparison TOS or DS9 are just better.

I gave up on both mid-run. It wasn’t so much they were bad as just not terribly good. Trek was beginning to feel tired, worn out and running out of steam. I became more interested in newer, fresher sci-fi shows like Farscape, BSG and Stargate SG1. Trek was no longer at the top of its game.

I actually still don’t rate VOY and ENT very highly. I later went back to watch what I’d missed in the original run and it was just okay. There was definitely a reason the franchise buckled and went into hibernation for several years.

Exactly the same for me, though I'm not as big on TAS. Still, Star Trek defines Trek for me. It's look is iconic in ways none of the others will ever be.
Exactly. TOS is still synonymous with Trek, and you can have people who know nothing of Trek who understand things like references quotes etc, and besides, TOS was a cultural phenomenon (I hope I'm using this phrase correctly). The others were really just for fans of Trek. ANd I'm saying this as someone who is of the opinion that TNG is better than TOS.

Indeed, yes. Even Enterprise is regarded as more of a high point nowadays, despite the castigation it received at the time.
