I think I'll go with the majority vote here and say season 4. I enjoyed all four seasons (though I'm not quite through with 1 yet) quite a bit. I think they all had their clunkers but, also, they all had some standout material.

I prefer Tennant over Ecclestone so it was clear that it would have to be seasons 2, 3 or 4. I think 4 benefits from a lot of build-up throughout the previous seasons as well as feeling quite taught and focused on some level. And what makes it really memorable in my mind, anyway, is Donna's tragic ending. In so many ways I think it's far worse than what happens to Rose. And it's so sad to watch as she realizes that not all is well.

It also helps that I really got to like Donna during the season. I was a little apprehensive at first. But she really, really grew on me. I like Rose a lot as well but I guess I prefer Donna just a bit. I do enjoy Martha but she's probably the one I like the least. I find her to be a bit bland compared to the other two somehow.

I enjoyed all seasons.. But for the hell of it, and for my love of Rose ;).. season 1. never mind, I saw the "all equal" vote, and took that one instead.

Tied between 1 and 4. Season one had Eccleston (whom I liked much better than Tennant), and Rose (before she went from an actual person to a simpering idiot). Season four had Donna, who's simply awesome. Unfortunately it also had that horrendous fanwank finale, but I suppose we can't have everything.

Season three had Martha, one of the most vacuous, uninteresting and one-dimensional companions the show ever had. It also had "Blink", which makes up for a great deal (the fact Martha was barely sighted in that ep was merely a bonus), but I didn't like season three much.

Season two - "School Reunion" aside (I'd expected it to be dire but it was wonderful) - is almost unwatchable for me. Tennant at his most manic and fanboyish, and Rose dribbling over him in practically every episode. To each their own but that combo didn't appeal to me at all.

Also I really don't get the Rose hate. Then again, she isn't Donna...
At least with Eccleston, she was an actual companion. In the second year, she was reduced to making googly eyes at the Doctor, and vice-versa.

I don't hate Rose, but I don't much like the season two version. Timby neatly summed up the reasons why.

I don't get the love for S4. There's so many middling episodes. Partners in Crime. Pompeii. Planet Ood. Doc Daughter. Unicorn Wasp. Midnight. The Sontaran and Library two parters are good but not amazing. And there was no central running storyline really. Really it was only the finale I found to be excellent.

I liked all seasons equally :).

In every season there were episodes I was less interested in. But I felt still entertained ( well, except for Love & Monsters - that one was real crap). So I can't say that I liked one season better than another. They all had very good episodes and some weaker ones.

Oh, a tie between three and four, I think.

Same here. I think some of season 1 was a bit awkward, but I loved Eccleston as the Doctor. But each season had one or two episodes that the universe could have done without, so it's a close call all around. Season 2 had Tennant being a bit over the top for me, at least at the start. And Love & Monsters. Oy.

Season 3 had Martha, who I liked a lot, but it also had pig -men. (FFS, pig men?) But I also really liked Blink, Human Nature and some of the Master's moments.

Season 4 had the Unicorn and the Wasp and The Doctor's Daughter. But also Silence in the Library and Midnight.

I think it all comes out about the same.

Hmm....

Damn... haven't voted yet because I don't know if I can pin it down.

Loved Series 1 for Eccleston. Hated Rose.

Loved Series 4 for Donna, the best since Sarah Jane.

Series 3 is easily the bottom. That much I know. As much as I hated Rose, I hated Martha more.

Yeah, I loved Rose in s1, but I hated the giggling schoolgirl dynamic she shared with Tennant. I know the arrogance of 'we're going to travel forever' is an important part of the overal season arc, but it is still bloody annoying at times!

Season 4 gets my vote. It had only one clunker ("The Doctor's Daughter," which really frustrates me because it had the potential of being awesome: Finding Susan. Alas.) and featured Donna, who is by far the new series' best companion (although Mickey and Jack are pretty awesome). The rest of the season ranged from good (unlike most, I think "The Unicorn and the Wasp" was wonderful) to amazing ("Midnight").

Season 3 has some of my favorite new series episodes ("Human Nature"/"The Family of Blood," "Blink," "Utopia"), but falls short with Martha (who would have been much better if she wasn't pining over The Doctor) and takes a great reintroduction of The Master (both Jacobi and Simm are brilliant) and flushes it down the toilet in "The Last of the Time Lords."

Season 1 has only a few truly memorable episodes ("Dalek," "The Empty Child"/"The Doctor Dances") but it is so much fun because Christopher Eccleston was amazing. To this day, I wish we had at least one more season from him.

Season 2 gets the bottom spot because only "School Reunion," "The Girl in the Fireplace," and "The Impossible Planet"/"The Satan Pit" are the only good episodes of the season and Rose became utterly unbearable.

In the end, I love all of the seasons. It's bloody Doctor Who afterall!

3 and 4 are tied pretty close. Season 3 had alot of good episodes

From "The Family of Blood" to the end with "Last of The timelords" was an amazing roller coaster ride

i didn't dislike any of season 4.

the only episode i really don't like is Fear Her and that had a few good moments in (my hary manly hand, the fingers on lips bit)

From "The Family of Blood" to the end with "Last of The timelords" was an amazing roller coaster ride

I'd say from Human Nature to the Sound of the Drums.

I really couldn't stand the whole messiah/power of positive thinking end to Series Three. After the end credits I was expecting message saying "This episode brought to you by The Secret".

I went with Season 1. Eccelston had far more range and subtlety as the Doctor. Rose was much better in S1 as well.

Plus "Fan-TAS-tic" is a much better catch phrase than "I'm sorry....I'm so sorry" (which might as well be Tennets)

But all the seasons contain some incredible gems.

It was terrible, Gareth Roberts is terrible and you're a horrible person for liking it.

It would have been ok...if Gareth Roberts hadn't already done the same story with the Shakespeare Code...well by the same story I mean the same kind of jokes re a famous writer 'inspired' by the Doctor and his companion  it was funny with Shakespeare but even then the joke grew thin. For all it's faults, The Doctor's Daughter at least had originality at heart.

I bet you could re-edit The Unicorn and the Wasp and cut it down to a ten-minute story about the Doctor and Donna playing a prank on Agatha Christie.

That might be acceptable.
