Expecting Trailer?/Super Bowl Trailer is Live Now [SPOILERS]

The burn marks on the leading edge of the saucer look like they streak back, as if the ship was at high speed when the damage occured. Kinda wondering if the ship was maybe traveling at warp and then the deflector was destroyed. Would certainly explain such heavy damage. And it would be a huge move for Harrison to sabotage the ship at warp.

We'll revisit this on May 18th.

You say that as though you are in the know.

He's as much in the know as any of us but always plays the safe bet and will consistantly dismiss idle fan speculation like an online Buzz Killington as though it's important and matters in any way.

Personally, I think the Enterprise will blow up, Spock will die, Kirk will be promoted to Admiral, there will be a young Picard cameo, Earth will be partially destroyed and then rebuilt to resemble the 2nd Death Star and Admiral Archer's dog will turn up.

We'll see on May 18th.

Perhaps McCoy will die in Spock's place, to subvert expectations?

And I don't think Cumberbatch is an augment from the Botany Bay. He's a defector from the Federation.

GOOD GOD MAN! I peed a little.

Eh. As you get older, you get used to that.

The more I see, the more I'm certain this movie doesn't end well. Or even if if does, at least thematically, Cumberbatch leaves behind a mess that will take decades to clean up.

Again, agreed. It may not officially 'cliff-hang', (can you imaging the butthurt of that happening!) but repercussions will endure.

Well, for what it's worth, here's what Abrams had to say about the ending

Despite how stressful and intense the movie will be for our characters, Abrams indicated that Star Trek Into Darkness will have a “happy” ending:
“I don’t like going to the movies to feel bad. I don’t like going to the movies to feel depressed and feel diminished. The reason you go to the movies is to feel bigger and stronger and happier. So this is a movie that they certainly go Into Darkness, but I would be the wrong director if it was about characters staying there. This is very much a movie about hope, about love, about romance, and about facing something that is truly terrifying and finding a way through the connection of your family and surviving and being stronger afterwards.”

Whoever erased the name wasn't aiming for the phaser banks, for the banks on both the port and starboard sides were intact.

I have a explanation for the 'bubbles' everyone is talking about that seems to be coming from the front part of the saucer. It's the Enterpise's Fire Suppression Systems at work trying to put out the fire with water caused by battle damage. The water is leaking through the hull breach as the ship heads towards the atmosphere.

Or just the ship's water supply being breached. The old 1975(ish) Enterprise blueprints by Franz Joseph had the water supply stored in the saucer. It's something I liked in the first film - Robau walking through puddles, with leaking pipes overhead.

I'm thinking it's air escaping from the ship, the ship looks like she lost power and has numerous hull breaches so there could be loss of air.

Or it could be smoke from inside as well.

Hopefully Scotty isn't trapped in the water pipes again!

Such bullshit. My favourite genre is horror, explain that one JJ.

Doesn't the plot resolution of many horror films often include some sort of "triumph over a threat"?

I would think that would give you a stronger feeling.

[Puts on tinfoil hat]
What if it's CG work to disguise the ship's actual registry number and name for the trailers; the Connie crashing towards Earth isn't Enterprise at all, but another Constitution-class ship?

M y biggest gripe with Enterprise taking so much damage and falling to the planet is that it really does little to help Kirk as a character. He gets to be captain at the end of the last movie, and the first adventure, he (nearly) loses his ship?

Doesn't sit right with me. Makes him seem incompetent.
