Expecting Trailer?/Super Bowl Trailer is Live Now [SPOILERS]

GOOD GOD MAN! I peed a little.

Eh. As you get older, you get used to that.

The more I see, the more I'm certain this movie doesn't end well. Or even if if does, at least thematically, Cumberbatch leaves behind a mess that will take decades to clean up.

Again, agreed. It may not officially 'cliff-hang', (can you imaging the butthurt of that happening!) but repercussions will endure.

OK...

the whole Harrison/Kirk dialogue exchange of:
Harrison: I'm Better
Kirk: At What?
Harrison: Everything.
has me again considering the theory that some people have that Harrison was one of the "Supermen" on the Botany Bay.
:vulcan:

Yeah, me too. I've hated the idea of a Khan rehash but, I gotta say, if this is a Khan rehash then it appears they spared no expense doing a story of Genetically Engineered Supermen capable of World Detonation on the scale it deserved.

The Ad just aired!

Yeah a Khan rehash -- but it wouldn't really be a "TWoK" rehash. TWoK never dealt with the the whole idea of Khan being a genetically engineered 'Superman' who was a world ruler. It only dealt with what happened after that Superman went mad.

Don't get me wrong -- I loved TWok, but it wasn't really a continuation of what I think was the most interesting aspect "Space Seed" -- and that was the idea that this sleeper ship was full of a race of genetically engineered superhumans. TWoK was basically a story of one of those superhumans going mad with rage, and being pratically unrecognizable shell of the Superman he once was.

I would love to see a story explore that more intersting aspect of Space Seed -- and that is idea of a genetically engineered superman loose in the Federation (I mean, one with all of his faculties, and can act on something other than just madness and revenge).

I know. When I say "Khan rehash" I mean 'anything to do with Khan'. You may be getting your wish.

How did it look on TV?

As well as possible for our HDTV to present it, I suppose. It really flew by, not as much time to study the details as is possible with the internet version, which I've viewed multiple times now.

^^^It actually looks like a landing bay, I assumed for Taxis/transport but I can make out what looks like missiles or torpedoes, so it may be a starfleet base of some kind designed to scramble fighters in the event of an attack.

Either way, I think it's based in London.

BTW, is anyone else put off by the mile wide saucer slicing through skyscrapers at the end? THE MILE-WIDE SAUCER. >_<

You do know this Enterprise is meant to be much bigger than the original? 725 meters long according to the Bluray, but possibly as large as 1200m (the Art of the Movie book)

1200 m we are going off your yummy size analysis as BBS canon
And it looks like we're gonna get that refit I wanted for the next film:)

Don't forget the Vulcan arrival scene in ST09, where the Enterprise nearly collided with a piece of a saucer that looked like it belonged to a starbase instead of a ship.

Super Bowl....47.

I just noticed something regarding the Super Bowl and Into Darkness... It is Super Bowl 47 and we have a Trek trailer....funny coincidence. Yes, I know it has zero to do with it, and commercials during the Super Bowl is a big deal that any company would want to have. Just a fun observation. :)

Anybody else notice that the damage to the Enterprise saucer seems as if someone purposely tried to blow the ship’s name off the hull?

Seems we might
...actually get another version of the Enterprise after all.
True. Can't wait to see that onscreen.
As long as its entertaining, does it matter?

For a Star Trek fan who wants to see more Star Trek, yes. It does matter. If I was just in it for entertainment, I would go for something else.
This is NOT grandpa's Star Trek, but it IS Star Trek. Fortunately, you still have TOS on VHS. The rest of us like that Star Trek is alive and evolving.
=========================================
If Earth does "fall", it would open up a chance to genuinely rebuild the world of Trek... and many new adventures for our favorite crew.

No.

Maybe we won't have an Enterprise at all in the next film.

But this one looks in pretty rough shape to me to think it was salvaged, especially if it crash-landed on Earth. The way the smoke is billowing from it leads me to believe it's already in the atmosphere. (Link to two pictures of damaged E, below.)

I was thinking the same thing, it's a long shot, but could it be another ship? 1707?

My bet is that the ship falls into the atmosphere but regains control before she crashes.

Kirk asks "Who are you?" which means it's not Gary, nor April and not any former crew member.

Nah, it's definitely the Enterprise. After watching and reviewing the full HD version, it is indeed the E.

Here you can see what I mean though...it's like the name itself was targeted specifically. Whether it was by the attacker or just the SFX guys thinking it'd be cool is of course yet to be seen. Makes me wonder though if Harrison is indeed April, and April is indeed a former Enterprise captain...maybe he'd have reason to want the name scratched off the hull?

I also find it odd how the hull plates around the registry are so misaligned. I know they were going for the look of the ship really being made of different pieces but that's pretty drastic.

Kirk asks "Who are you?" which means it's not Gary, nor April and not any former crew member.

Could still be April, but not in a form by which Kirk recognizes him (i.e. much younger)
