News Exclusive: Scott Bakula Eyeing Star Trek Return In President Archer Series Pitch From ‘Enterprise’ Producer

Fresh. Except that' it 's still Starfleet.
Well yeah
Fresh. Except Klingons.
Previously unseen Klingon hybrids and a Klingon science officer which okay while not wholly original is certainly not retreading well Worfed roads.
Fresh. Except Jem-Hadar.
Except 800 years ago there were no Jem'Hadar women and they couldn't breed let alone cross-breed and were all drug addicts. So we're seeing huge galactic development.
Fresh. Except "Star Trek: Voyager" hologram Doctor.
Do crossovers not warm your heart?

I'm all for a Star Trek politcal drama. There are certainly many interesting time periods you can set one in.

To quote Bugs bunny: Ain't I a stinker?
Most of the cast are new characters, including the Klingon and Jem'Hadar. It's all in the execution.

But hey, I guess it's more fun to doom-and-gloom before seeing the final product, eh?

My big 3 sins of the Trek franchise are/were:

1) TOS Crew going out on a whimper on both TOS and TAS.

2) TNG crew going outcwith a whimper after Nemesis.

3) ENT crew being dissed in their own finale as we go through Riker & Troi in TATV.

#1 was rectified by The Undiscovered Country. 22 years after TOS was cancelled. 17 after TAS.

#2 was rectified with Picard season 3. 21 years after Nemesis.

#3 has not been rectified. Despite some Enterprise love from LD (T'Pol!) and SNW ("Those Old Scientists."

Not saying their have not been some cancellations and characters I thought could have been done better (Kirk's death in Generations, Laris, no Kelvin wrap up), but I don't think the DS9, VOY, DISCO, LD, or PRO crews were done dirty. DISCO was close. But the finale was OK and SFA gives them more chances.

I'll support it wholeheartedly if it happens... but my excitement was short-lived reading the article, and knowing Paramount+ would sooner carry on stretching the definition of Star Trek to breaking point.

I wish we could've had a straight forward Season 5, like a decade ago, acting like no time had passed. Maybe in animation, or on audio... while Manny Coto was still with us.

The other option in my mind, was to set it on the Franklin from Star Trek Beyond... with as much action happening on the Enterprise, and Archer butting heads with the MACO led Edison. Idris Elba as the show lead to bring in the not we audience. Bakula and all the reunited ENT cast become regular supporting guests, doing both new and legacy simultaneously. In the way DS9 ran a huge recurring cast and the way Picard with Soong, Riker & Troi were surrounded by entirely new misfits to begin with.

It certainly is an intriguing idea. I'm not going to hold my breath on it at the moment mainly because it does just seem to be talk and the merger does leave a lot of unanswered questions concerning the Trek franchise's future. But if they did go ahead with this, I'd be there for it.
I imagine there'll be a powerful temptation to introduce ancestors of 23rd/24th, etc. century characters.
I wouldn't think so. Enterprise itself managed to avoid that for the most part. The only reason they introduced a Soong ancestor in the fourth season was because they were instructed to create a role specifically for Brent Spiner to play.

How long ago did George Takei start pushing the idea of a Captain Sulu series?

How long ago did Michael Dorn start pushing the idea of a Worf series?

They haven't happened. This won't either.

The idea that the people who did Enterprise could do something as good as Andor requires a lot more faith than I have in my heart.

Yeah, but Enterprise didn't have DIS, SNW, and PIC to pattern itself after in that regard.

We might yet get Shatner as Tiberius Kirk (as they'd toyed with the idea of) if he lives a few more years in good health.

I suppose we have to bear in mind that this pitch fell by the wayside and will need a significant boost to get anywhere again.
Only because the priority was Starfleet Academy. And not the first show to fall by the wayside for Starfleet Academy either; the same thing happened to Legacy and even the Picard movie.

I'm kind of tired of the prequels
I’d rather they get the prequel stuff out of their system.
He was not Aw Shucks Archer after the Season 4 episode Home. His time in the expanse really did change him.
He stopped being Aw Shucks Archer in Season 3 with the torture and piracy and seeing a third of his crew get killed.

Does anyone have any idea what that Origins movie is supposed to be about?

Sulu will get some shine in an audiodrama about Khan. It's better than nothing.

A Worf show could always be a backdoor pilot to Legacy. There has been interest in Worf and Raffi teaming up again. And would tick the checkbox off of following up on what the Klingons are up to. Which would mean that Legacy could spent time telling other stories.

The pleasure planet comedy project seems to be forgotten at the moment. As much as I DONT want another prequel, I would prefer the Archer show over that.

To me , it's insane to consider the possibility that they would actually push forward with the Risa show ahead of this or even Year One or Legacy ( both of which I much rather see in a limited series or streaming movie format.)

But theoretically that show ( pleasure planet work placecomedy ) is much farther ahead of anything being "pitched" and scripts are actually being written if I'm not mistaken.

And yes I conceed there are those who would be open to the Risa show. For me , I just wouldn't be interested in that type of show - Star Trek or otherwise. Just personal preference.

Michael Dorn was in seven seasons of TNG and four seasons of DS9. I’m not saying there isn’t more that could be done with Worf, but it seems to me like he’s had his turn.

I would absolutely watch a President Archer series — and I would be absolutely surprised if it ever happened.

I really hope this happens. It's been nice to see ENT grow in popularity over the years, this would be a great way to cement its status.
