News Exclusive: Scott Bakula Eyeing Star Trek Return In President Archer Series Pitch From ‘Enterprise’ Producer

A Star Trek series set on Earth inside some important part of the Federation, would work. We all think of the Federation officials as people in dress uniforms that show up sometimes and have to be saved by the latest Enterprise crew, but what if it's a hot mess of intrigue and battles against attacks? Just look at ST: TNG where a alien infiltrated the ranks ("Conspiracy") or shapeshifters from Deep Space Nine. You have the good, the tea party/Constitutionalists equivalent trying to save the Federation from corruption and loosing it's way, then you have the other side that is chuck full of corruption, aiding the enemy, seeing the ideals and principals that sustained the Federation for so long as dusty, out-dated and can be changed by a small cabal of fucktards who believe they know better.

Make peace with the Borg, they promise they won't assimilate us. Admiral Chamberlain got a signed subspace paper.

Just let the Cardassians have Bajor. A two-planet solution. They'll stop there for sure.

Plots to assassinate the Federation President, take over the Council, etc.

Not too much space travel needed, and when needed, since it's not a ship/crew centered series, it can always be a new ship, with guest appearances as May Sweeps/Fan Service Wankery needs.

Sure, I bet the new owners of Paramount are just chomping at the bit to bring back characters from a show that was considered a failure and was prematurely cancelled after four seasons of having no clue where the show was supposed to be going, and killed off the most popular character at the end.

Bringing characters from a show that was cancelled? When has Star Trek ever done that?
Star Trek: Scott Bakula Needs a Paycheck!
Last time I checked he had just spent 5 years starring in NCIS, I can't imagine he's hard up for cash. Maybe he liked the idea and wants to explore one of the characters that has defined his career?

And I thought I was a cynic.

Paramount is like any other studio: They are eyeballing properties they own and seeing if they can milk it by bringing it back. In the end multiple factors will make a decision. They didn't have to hear a pitch after all, they could have passed on that, too.

Every other studio is bringing back old properties. Who was clamoring for more "Punky Brewster"? Well, you got it anyway. Just one of multiple examples. Some work, some fail, some were good ideas, others were not from the get-go.

While I doubt it will actually happen, I'd certainly be down for it if it did. ENT was a flawed show but it had its charms, and it's certainly time for it to have its own moment of redemption. I do agree that a political thriller would be a fun addition to the franchise's oeuvre, and I really do want to get a look at the Federation in its early era, still recovering from the trauma of the Romulan War and still figuring out the best way for all these different species to live and work together.

If they want new viewers, bringing back a show that none of them ever watched is not a good business move.

Since when do the studios make good businesses moves all the time? Rememeber, we are talking about a studio that greenlit "Enterprise" back in the day. Amongst may other failures and flops in television and film.

Star Trek: Scott Bakula Needs a Paycheck!

If he just needed a paycheck he would have joined up with that Quantum Leap reboot.

Obviously shooting for something the quality of Andor is a bit pie in the sky. Especially when it’s being pitched by a Trek vet as opposed to Andor being run by a LEGIT filmmaker like Tony Gilroy who was given carte blanche (more or less).

But something along the lines of The West Wing but in space. With good writing and interesting stories…it has potential. Plus I can’t imagine the show would be as expensive to make as SNW or Academy. I doubt Archer would be commanding a ship in a huge fleet battle.

Is this show likely to happen. No. But it would be an interesting flyer to take. If they made it, it could open the door to a Star Trek Medical show, or a courtroom “Star Trek JAG” type show. I mean, CBS proper is like 90% crime dramas (the rest is shitty sitcoms or reality shows). So maybe even a Star Trek police procedural ala NCIS could work.

Plus…say it with me…Vice President Shran. Who wouldn’t want that.

I was tempted to react to some dubious political comments, but instead I will simply wonder how no one seems to have reacted to this.

The idea that the people who did Enterprise could do something as good as Andor requires a lot more faith than I have in my heart.

Faith. Heart. Get it? Huh? Do ya? Well, I tried. In fact, my wife sometimes thought I was very trying.
