Early NX-01 designs at John Eaves' blog.

If the actual NX had a color scheme closer to the TOS Enterprise, I would have liked it much better.

As it stands, meh.

Joe, colored

It wasn't that far off from "The Cage". Everything was gray or muted blue, it seemed.

I have a feeling it was meant to be rounder in section than the yacht, the shape of which was largely defined by retconning it into the shape of the bottom of the torpedo turret.

I'm not trying to drag this out, but I'm rather curious why you find the sphere idea so primitive? (BTW, I'd argue that the Pasteur had a sphere rather than a saucer because it was a medical ship and needed more space.)

That is a reasonable argument. Sphere designs remind me of the Discovery in 2001: A Space Odyssey. Maybe that's why I hate spherical hull designs. It's a bad omen.

I would further postulate that a medical ship has no need for separate hulls whatsoever. They can be a giant box with large warp nacelles attached and still perform their mission of mercy.

Since we were talking about the idea of a lighter hull scheme, I thought I'd post a link to Doug Drexler's blog where he has shared the 'approval' model of the NX-01, which did indeed have a lighter color.

Is he reading our threads? :p

The ship looked good in Silver. Also, Doug wouldn't be the first Production Staffer to view this forum. I had a private message conversation with Andy Probert once.

Well Mr. Probert, Mr. Sternbach, and Mr. Okuda have accounts here with their names and are each really nice guys. It'd be cool if Mr. Drexler did something similar so we could talk to him directly.

Wow, I would have loved this!

While the above design is quite pleasing to my eye (love the detail), it just does not conform to my vision of a pre-tos Enterprise.

I have seen this design with added notations by ENT production staff as being "too 24th century." Although the design was rejected I must admit that it would be a beauty to behold via small or large (theater) screen.

I LOVE the first one. The second just looks like an updated TOS one.

The first one with minor add-ons and such would have eben so much better than the rehashed trash we got.

If they had gone with the first design, it certainly would've been a departure, one that would've set ENT apart from the other series. It reminds me a little of DSN's Defiant. However, it would've been a better design for NX-01's shuttlecraft. The second one I also like better, as it's quite reminiscent of the other Enterprises. Hope that design is used, maybe in the new series of movies, a sister ship to ole NCC-1701? -- RR

The point is to be a departure. All they ended up doing was reusing a 24th century ship and just flipping the engines around.

In turn the ship was a get example of the show, just reuse EVERY storyline from the last 4 shows instead of ever doing anything new.

It also would have made an interesting new look for the NCC-1701 in the upcoming movie. However, the one we're going to get is growing on me more and more as I see it in the trailers and TV Spots.
