News Ships of the Line 2026 Calendar

That's fair. I refer back to the canon NX-74205 then.

Besides that, I think it's great how this new calendar prompts conversations. It feels good to have it back with new content.
The Defiant is a problematic example given we could then say why was Garak on a street corner inside one of the Miranda class ships that got destroyed if one takes recycled footage at face value. I know it's pedantic but the extensive limitations that were placed on them should be taken into account. We know it was intended to be the A but production mistakes happen either models, costumes or dialogue. I mean we ignore the eugenics wars being in the 22nd century and lt jg pips on lt commanders.

If we take absolutely everything as canon verbatim then we end up with quite a mess. Thus contradictions by purists on both Memories Alpha and Beta.

Roddenberry himself suggested that ST was just a dramatic recreation of the "real" adventures, and that any inconsistencies or changes (like Klingons suddenly having ridges) were due to errors or dramatic license in the dramatizations. (Which makes sense, given that his TV writing career began with adapting real police cases to be dramatized by Dragnet -- and that both Dragnet and TOS were framed by narration representing the lead character's official reports of the events being depicted.)

And there are plenty of changes that are best interpreted as non-diegetic differences in adaptations -- characters being recast, alien makeups changing, planets looking different in different FX depictions, warp or transporter or phaser effects changing in different productions, ship interior sets being too big to fit inside the ships, and of course, characters being live-action in some cases and cartoons in others.

Indeed. Although I certainly didn't mind having a "best of" calendar, given that (1) they are still art that had only been "on exhibit" once before, and (2) nobody complains about other ST calendars running pictures we've seen before.

I'd be up for a "Best Of" calendar featuring scenes from various series. But no, I was referring specifically to SotL (which, by definition, is already "all series, including non-canonical series) doing a "Best Of" every few years. Most of the pictures in the 2025 SotL were ones from long enough ago that I was "seeing them again for the first time."
