Eaglemoss company gone?

As someone who got into Star Trek in the first place because of the cool starship designs, this is a HUGE blow. Eaglemoss may have had some inaccuracies in a few of their models, but I take them over Diamond Select AND Playmates because they did something that no other toy company did for Star Trek: release previously unreleased and obscure behind the scenes starship designs as replicas. The size scale of their ships was perfect too; not too tiny like Micro Machines, but small enough that you could easily collect a large number and still have space for them all.

This is a sad day, friends. :(

RIP. I've been wanting one of the mean green D'deridexes for a while.

Are there CAD files somewhere out there for hobbyists to model and fabricate on their own (ie not for commercial use)? Would that be allowed without having to buy licensing rights if it's for personal consumption?

You can probably still find the actual Eaglemoss ship online. Amazon, eBay or some online places like Entertainment Earth.

It's a real pity. They made some nice stuff.

I wonder if this makes sense of some stuff now we can put it all in context? Like physical magazines going all digital?

It's a shame. I was always going to buy a ship or two 'one day'.

I guess that's why a company like Eaglemoss may struggle. Folks like to browse the pretty 360 degree photography of model spaceships, but only a fraction of those who browse actually buy something.

I feel bad for everyone, but most of all the NCC 1701 builders who are likely shit out of luck now.

Yeah this is awful for build-up subscribers. Besides the Enterprise-D, I know there have been some interesting non-Trek ones. I'm not sure if they were still available before now, though, or were past projects.

The DeLorean from Back To The Future has fewer than ten issues outstanding. I understand that some people were able to complete Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters but only just.

I was able to finish the DeLorean, but only after I discovered that I could get 10+ issues at a time per month, as opposed to the usual 2. I think I was able to actually request that they "send them all", and they did, within two months and complete. This was an undocumented feature from Eaglemoss that was briefly mentioned in another related thread last year, that could be applied to all subscriptions, from what I recall.

My suspicion is foolish expansion, the company was ticking over nicely by making ships and figurines, but then expanded into badges, Tshirts, socks..

Stuff like shirts and socks are way cheaper to have made than model starships. As @137th Gebirg mentioned, COVID supply chain related issues also must have hit them hard, the notice about going into administration states their revenue dropped from £68M to £31.2M, losing over 50% of your revenue is pretty much a death blow for any company.

It's awkward. I was an editor for a failing company that couldn't buy paper. Still finished the issue, but they were never printed.

Actually, the issue was eventually printed (sort of, mix of it and stuff for the next one). With a cover that was in the system as "Cover I hate but the bosses insist on it."

I always had a funny feeling about Eaglemoss. I found their model subscription business to be both too niche, and not niche enough. I mean I found those small models to be too pricey for the average consumer, and not premium enough for the high-end collector. I recall some reviews of earlier models from TrekCore where they noted some real quality control issues, like the misaligned painted window detailing and visible fingerprints, and that made me question their worth. They got better, but still, it did not leave a good impression on me. I think about items like those transformable Macross Valkyries from Japan, and for the price of a few of these Eaglemoss models, you could import a transformable mech/plane hybrid with some nice detailing. With Eaglemoss, you just got a mini-statue that sat there and didn't light up or make noise or do anything.

While I love my Enterprise D from Eaglemoss, I'm actually more impressed with my Johnny Lightning Legends of Star Trek ships I have. The detail is excellent, and I got these at 1/5th the price of Eaglemoss, and they look almost as good.

That said, my Ent D has a nice place on my desk, I do love it. I hope my Ent C looks just as nice.

Oh, and one other thing: I like the way Johnny Lightning does their models. The hole in the bottom for the stand, and you can look around at the whole ship. Eaglemoss does the bracket method, and while that means no hole in the bottom, it also means I have to take it off the stand if I want to look at it all around.

I was thinking about those Johnny Lighting ships, and even those Japanese gashapon ships from Furuta. Both seemed like they were fun to collect, and there were some nice chase items. The Johnny Lightning ones in particular had some nice white repaints and cloak ships, like a cloaked TOS Romulan Bird-of-Prey with the bird design painted on.
