Each time I see Revenge of the Sith...

No in the commentary Lucas himself said that by turing to the dark Anakin became a better lightsaber dualist than Obi-Wan, in terms of sheer power Obi-Wan was far from the most powerful, the Midichlorians kind of decide who the powerful Force user is .

Well, to be honest relying on commentary to fill in such gaps is just poor storytelling. Besides, does he explain why in an in-universe logic sort of way why that should be so or even make sense? It just seems like more of the same moronisms that seem to come out of him. If all it takes is you go and dark you become a better swordsman - how can the jedi compete against that?

Seeing as how both Obi-Wan and later Luke was able to beat Vader(Of course Luke had some help from the Dark Side.) there is a way, but then Kenobi was able to beat Darth Maul and Grevious I'd say his secret lies in his defensive use of the Force for his lightsaber combat skills.

perhaps. i guess it's just a matter of what appeals to you. for me i think the force should be a slightly more manifest version of chi or ki. That is, with intensive training and familiarity one gets a better handle on it than say someone with more innate proficiency yet does not train or develop it. for example it is reasonable that luke might be quite powerful since vader remarked on that fact but was unable to repeat yoda's feat because of self doubt and lack of experience or familiarity with the force. I guess I just wanted a little more story believability and background and a little less pod racing and other FX masturbation. oh well, i guess we can bitch and moan till doomsday and it won't change anything. lol.

Lucas does allow his actors to do their own thing, Warwick Davies talks about that in the Willow commentary when compared Lucas to Ron Howard as directors.
Warwick Davis hasn't been in anything directed by Lucas, so it sounds to me like he may have been talking out of his ass here.

Regarding Hayden's acting, I've found him to be wooden and unbelievable in every film he's been in. Thus I don't blame Lucas for Hayden's poor performance. He simply isn't a good actor. Pretty, yes. But not a good actor.

Warwick Davies played three different parts in TPM so yeah he knows what he's talking about and yes Lucas did direct TPM.
I spent the evening with Warwick Davies and his family down the pub last night... surely he would have spent a lot of time with George Lucas on Return of the Jedi???

How much time did Lucas spand on the set of ROTJ? Outside of casting I don't know if they much contact. What did he tell you?

I suppose maybe that was the point but killing the jedi children was too dark for me, I found that really disturbing and didn't want to see it again after that. I mean blowing up Alderaan is one thing but the thought of slaughtering a child face-to-face just got to me. Though I suppose all will be forgiven later by chucking the emperor into the reactor core.

Funnily enough we didn't really chat about 'work stuff'

I accused him of poisoning the peanuts tho ;)

Generally, I've found all the prequel films get worse the more one watches them. This is even true of AOTC, which I loved, loved, loved when it was released in theaters. I still like it a lot, and would rank it up with ROTJ, but some of the luster has worn off.

And given that I hated ROTS as soon as I watched it, the less said the better...

Yeah, as much as it is generally disliked, AOTC is actually my favorite of the three prequels.

One thing I've gathered from reading these boards is that opinions on the Star Wars movies, especially the prequels, are far from uniform. To round things out, my favorite of the prequels is The Phantom Menace. (Yes, really! Even with its annoyances, I think it's true to the wonder of Star Wars in a way that the others aren't.)

I totally agree...of the newer movies, Phantom Menace, to me, seems more like New Hope--Empire--Jedi, in terms of pacing....and since the effects were restrained, when compared to II and III, it just seems more accessable...

One really doesnt need fingers to perform a force choke, or pull Obi wan closer into the lava...

Except that Obi is a powerful force user, and Anikin is...well ALMOST DEAD.

Obi-Wan was nowhere near to being the most powerful Force user ever Yoda, Paplatine, Mace Windu and even Dooku were all more powerful than Kenobi.

That's why I disliked the new trilogy so badly.

Kenobi WAS a very strong Jedi. Up to the level of Yoda and Palpatine? Probably not but he could hold his own.

They made him to be a pussy in most of the movie, getting his ass kicked. But if you read anything about Kenobi, most talked about how strong he was as a Jedi and how he was a Jedi Master in RotS. He was a great fighter and a very calm, calm presence.

They should have made Kenobi to be a bit like his mentor Qui-Gon and have that patience, philosophical look on everything but...Kenobi didn't. It would have not only been irony but such a good circle.

Back when they came out the original trilogy was thought to have been over loaded with visual effects.

I can't agree with that Kenobi took out Grevious by himself and beat Anakin as well.

It is widely known that Lucas "ghost directed" parts of RTOJ. He is almost an uncredited second unit director.

I can't agree with that Kenobi took out Grevious by himself and beat Anakin as well.

Grevious threw him around like a rag doll. Yes Kenobi took him out but with a blaster.

And Anakin was arrogant and overplayed his hand.

Kenobi beat Grevious' four lightsabers with his one, dropped his lightsaber and still won. And Anakin too had the advantage over Kenobi and yet Kenobi still won, he didn't seem like a pussy to me.

Kenobi also defeated a Sith Lord who had already killed his master, who was a powerful and widely renowned Jedi in his own right.

After that, Lucas kept making Kenobi look like a punk just to make Anakin look good. :p
