Dune Part 2 2023 (24, 25, 26...)

I remember him as a DJ/Ninja assassin in a couple episodes of Arrow. Thought he had something interesting about him back then. Good to see he's getting bigger work.

Honestly, I haven't heard of Austin Butler either, nor do I know anything about the Elvis biopic aside from a few commercials on TV.

Which, for me just emphasized the past year I seem to have checked out of movies altogether. I've only gone to the theatre six times this year. Before the pandemic, I was going double that. Damnedest thing is, there are movies that interest me, I just find it really inconvenient to go to the theatres nowadays and even when I do go, it feels like a pain in the ass even when I enjoy the movie. Guess I'm getting old.

Then i'm old too - i paid 18 bucks for a Black Panther 2 showing in the middle of the week and 4,50 for the smallest cup of water they had! I'm sorry, these are prices i'm not willing to pay often when i have so many options at home with food and drink for the fraction of these costs and i can sit around in my underwear without anyone giving me funny looks ;)

AMC A-List is the price of seeing two movies a month here. I would still have it if I didn't have kids now.

Deadline reports that Mark Strong, Jade Anouka, and Chris Mason have joined the cast of The SIsterhood. It would seem despite losing one of the showrunners hasn't slowed the production down. The article also mentions that Travis Fimmel (Vikings) is also in the cast but I hadn't heard about that particular news.

Strong will play Emperor Javicco Corrino, a man from a great line of war-time Emperors, who is called upon to govern the Imperium and manage a fragile peace.

Anouka portrays Sister Theodosia, a talented and ambitious acolyte at the Sisterhood who harbors a dangerous secret about her past.

Mason plays Keiran Atreides, a Swordmaster to a Great House whose ambition to live up to his family name is disrupted when he forms an unexpected connection to a member of the royal family.

Fimmel was announced in the second round of casting news. The others weren't officially announced until now but had been included in official set photos, which was weird.

Huh, I guess I completely missed Fimmel's casting because I was so excited about Emily Watson and Shirley Henderson.

For the record, my pun was unintentional. I really was just praising the casting choices made for this show.

Though I do agree that Mark Strong is awesome all the same.

So what are your scenes you want to see in the second part?

Apart from the cornerstones like Paul riding a worm for the first time, drinking the water of life or his final fight against Feyd there are scenes i really love and would like very much to see in the movie.

One is Jamis' funeral. In the movie he may come across as a dick and/or xenophobic/dsitrustful but his funeral was very important to Paul's development and to show what his death meant for Paul. Paul realizes and voices that to kill carries also a price and it shouldn't be done lightly. I also loved how everybody, according to Fremen tradition, take some of his belongings by saying what he meant to the person and with Jamis it is shown that he was actually a very decent and good Fremen, sort of vindicating him after his death.

The other scenes just show how utterly terrifying the Fremen are in combat when they casually drop comments like "Some of them were actually good" after they ambushed and killed a Sardaukar unit or when the Sardaukar tried an operation against a Sietch and being routed by kids and the old.

Definitely them interrogating the Sardaukar officer, as well as the Fedaykin against the Sardaukar. I doubt it will happen, but it would be interesting to have a discussion around what makes the Fremen equal to the Emperor's elite. Always one of my favorite conversations between Thufir and the Baron.

I always wanted a scene where they capture a Harkonnen soldier with a visible Harkonnen tattoo and then later when Fremen are playing drums you see the same tattoo on the drumhead....

I'd like it to be made clear that Fenring and Paul's showdown is the real climactic battle, even though it's all subtext. To do it though they'll have to add dialogue.

Making the most out of Fenring in general.

Really exploring Paul's triocular vision - seeing the then, now, and potential future all at once, navigating near infinite paths.

His show down with the Guild. Despite limitations that was done well in the miniseries. However Villeneuve's decision to make the Guilds reliance on spice a commonly known fact instead of a reveal may undercut that standoff.

My mother is my enemy

Though I took the scene between Thufir and the baron to mean the standing House Atriedes army was close to that the sardaukar because the betrayal came before they had the chance to work the Fremen.

Once you put the the tactics of Halleck and Idaho (one of Thurfir's monologues is that the tactics used "reeked" of the the Duke's warmasters) with the skill and determination of the Fremen, well we all know happened....

Well, I might be misremembering, but there was a dialog were Thufir compares the environmental pressures ( a recurring theme of Dune) being similar on Salusa Secundus as to Dune, in terms of a harsh environment leading to the most durable fighters. The Baron remarks that no one is allowed to know the nature of Sardaukar training, but does concede the possibility that the prison planet allows for the harsh environment, similar to Arrakis, and allow for similar outcomes.

So what are your scenes you want to see in the second part?

Feyd's intro scene, which I'm assuming will now be the arena battle. Having held him back from the first half, they're going to have to immediately establish him as a problem for the final fight to have any weight. Austin's going to have to bring that first Elvis concert energy, both in fighting and in dialogue. (God help us if Denis finds a way to top the rubber speedo...)

The moment Paul reveals his family's hidden ties, whether to Jessica in private or to everyone in the final scenes. Mainly wanting to see the faces of newcomers to Dune and watch their jaws drop as they realize who's related to who.

Walken and Pugh as the Emperor & Irulan. I know they can't do what the miniseries did to beef up their roles, but I hope they're not there just to look dumbstruck in the last part of the film.

St. Alia the Creepy... Alicia Witt's gonna be one hell of a hard act to follow.

Yes that's part of the discussion but Hawat starts off by asking if the baron knows why the emperor wanted House Atreides destroyed and then talks about the training of the troops by Ducan and Gurney to match the sardukar.

The talk about the harsh environments and Salus Secundus then comes as Thufir goads the baron to use Arrakis as his prison planet and for raban to squeeze the population.
