Dune 2018 (19,20,21...)

I haven't seen Lynch's version in years. But I understand the problems with that film can be at least partially attributed to studio interference (and that's probably been addressed already, somewhere in the last 77 pages).

The man actually filmed the book ending

So yeah probably studio interference.

It's not Pink Floyd's original version of the song, though. It's a new arrangement by Hans Zimmer. :(

Kor
Yeah, I know. I usually hate covers in trailers and films instead of using the original, but I actually quite enjoyed this version. And say that as a massive Pink Floyd fan.

The main cast have somber roles. They are staid characters. But in the orgy I want the Fremen going wild. I want the sequel to have the absolute insanity of a death cult in the throes of religious ecstasy. I want drums made of human skin with Harkonnen tattoos visible being played while worshippers literally whip themselves into a frenzy screaming for their Lisan Al Gaib.
Ugh. That does not sound enjoyable, book or no.
Jason Momoa is going to steal the show :)
I certainly hope so, though I was pleasantly surprised by Brolin eve in the trailer.

Overall, less enthused by this trailer.

just find it cringy when classic material is re-done with modern vibe.
It's all in how its used.

In this instance, it wasn't used well.
What says death cult bent on genocide in the name of their living God to you? I mean, they have regular crazy religious orgies high on drugs before he shows up
I don't know-killing all Harkonnen while screaming their god's name?

Skin drums is a hard pass for me. Again, book or no book, it's distinctly uncomfortable, a point if near vomiting inducing illness for me. The orgies will also likely do the same.

Well it's not really Pink Floyd.

I also really dislike the use of contemporary lyric music with the fantasy genre.

You'll like this, then.

Edited to correct who I was actually replying too before your post happened thus interrupting the flow.

No worries. I also understand your position better - but at the same time, that's how you are supposed to feel. You're not supposed to be "All right, go Fremen!". You're supposed to be grossed out and thinking "That's fucked up.". That's why the flaying alive and skin turned into drums is mentioned in the books.

Cool. I'm glad I feeling the right things...still don't want to see it in a movie.

But, so far, the whole film has a "fucked up" vibe so they might be hitting the right notes.

I'm just going to be boringly literal re: the music, but I thought the sun (son?)/desert eclipsed by the moon (with the shadow) was rather poignant and perhaps a nod back to series roots?

I loved the trailer. And while I thought they got the personal shield shimmer better than the Lynch version, I was confused about the gom jabbar. Isn't it a personal extension of Mohiam rather than a hand weapon? I don't mind the change. They got so much else en-pointe I'm happy for different riffs....

It's a thimble with a poisoned needle attached in the books. They just made it bigger here for dramatic effect.

That's the point :). I think a thimble with a big-ass needle is pretty fucking dramatic and just curious. But hey, if they wanted to change it, works for me :techman:
