Missed one.Because it has to be acknowledged...
Yeah, that was pretty stomach-turning.
Paul was a whiny brat in the miniseries. Irulan (and her servant) were used in place of when Margot Fenring was supposed to seduce Feyd and conceive a daughter with him, to preserve the Harkonnen genes. Irulan visited Giedi Prime, and pretended to fawn all over Feyd for being such a wonderful fighter, and when he was expecting sex with her, sent in her servant instead. This was Irulan going on a fact-finding mission to find out what the Harkonnens knew about Paul and Jessica's disappearance, and had nothing to do with Margot's assignment from the Bene Gesserit. It's disappointing that so far all filmed versions of this book have ignored Margot Fenring.
OK this is a bit of a shock.
Christopher Walken has been cast as Shadam IV. That is definitely not a name that ever crossed my mind for Dune.
I don't mind Irulan's expanded role in the miniseries, since Julie Cox knocked it out of the park in portraying the character. Novel-Irulan is unlikeable at best, and even FH killed her off in the first draft of Dune Messiah.I mean, Margot and her sideplot never come back after the first book while Irulan becomes more important as the books go on. So I can understand why the Mini made Irulan stronger.
Dune is having a free screening Sep 4 in Montreal as part of the Montreal Film Festival. Organizers are saying there will be surprises from local talent prior to the screening.
Villeneuve himself is a Montrealer who is active in the Montreal & Quebec film community so, if a friend of mine wasn't celebrating her birthday that evening, I'd be going myself just in case.
