Really?!?AGT was good, but I would pass on "Q Who."
Yes. I get it. It's a well done episode that had long and irritating consequences to the franchise. I have the same reservations regarding The Wrath of Khan. Star Trek is too quick to clutch its pearls and become mired in its own self-importance of past glories. The lesson illustrated above seems lost on Star Trek production teams that in order to do something they have to stop playing it safe.Really?!?
I understand what you're saying, I just think you're throwing the baby out with the bath water. I don't think TNG benefits from loosing the judge from "Encounter at Farpoint" and "All Good Things...", but I do think it benefits from loosing the Cosmic Fool who pops in from time to time to annoy everybody. The idea that humanity is always on trial appeals to me. While "Q Who" is a bit of both the judge and the fool, but I feel it leans more towards the former than the latter. If avoiding Q means avoiding the Borg then I will be willing to give it up.
I see the appeal and am OK with it as it is. However, I do not want Q to continue in this role for Picard. I would like them to move forward and I see using Q as going backward. It is a very bad habit that Trek likes to do.I understand what you're saying, I just think you're throwing the baby out with the bath water. Would it help if we teamed him up with the CGI alien monkey from the Lost In Space movie, and perhaps Snarf from the original Thundercats cartoon? Put them all in a Type-15 shuttlecraft painted like the Mystery Machine with Picard and Lwaxana Troi and have them all searching the galaxy for space ghosts. What do you think?Regardless, I do not care for Q and would not be sad to see him go.

OMG. I just read that as Picard is trying to get a concussion for opening a wine bar on New Romulus.Picard trying to get a concession for opening a wine bar on New Romulus![]()
Sorry, but "Q" and the word "maturity" simply don't go together.with Q's level of maturity
Picard has retired and gone to live with the Ba'ku and married Aniij, who is now pregnant with his child. After the destruction of Romulus, the balance of power has changed, and the Orion Syndicate has taken control of the region containing the Briar Patch.
The Ba'ku's world is cut off from the Federation, and they have to take on menial jobs to make ends meet. On discovering he has inoperable hair cancer, Picard decides to take care of his family by manufacturing "Ketrecel Blue" - a new variant on Ketrecel white that is popular amongst alpha quadrant species.
Cue remake of Breaking Bad.
Picard get space cancer.
The only cure is genetic resequnceing which federation free healthcare does not offer.
As Picard has never been paid, and so has no money he cant afford private care.
So Picard and Wesley crusher team up to make space meth.
Picard has to hide his growing drug empire from his wife ( beverly)while getting into all sorts of escapades with the orion syndicate.
Well, the shows are commercial products, if they don't make money from various sources they don't stay in production. Discovery is making enough money to remain, although better merchandising would (apparently) help.Basing decisions on the show on merchandising that doesn't exist rather than trying to tell a decent story.
That should be the title of the new series.Picard get space cancer.
CBS has made more money from their streaming signups and selling to Netflix for international broadcast than they have done through negligible merchandising from the show. Seeing as how pretty all merchandise for Trek these days is limited to TOS and occasionally TNG and NuTrek they aren't taking much risk by even straying into fan favourites such as DS9 or VOY.Well, the shows are commercial products, if they don't make money from various sources they don't stay in production. It's all a part of the overall mix. Maybe the toy manufacturers should simply have a say in the design of the ships and uniforms, and let the writers concentrate on the stories?
Why would they take the risk?Seeing as how pretty all merchandise for Trek these days is limited to TOS and occasionally TNG and NuTrek they aren't taking much risk by even straying into fan favourites such as DS9 or VOY.
Which is pretty much my original point. So much of what the studio will want from the show will be what they can sell for merchandising but with no one making it then the point is moot, but this will still be the studios main concern rather than the quality of the show itself. Why would they take the risk?
Largely because they fear losing money. Not sure how that fear can be alleviated.Which is pretty much my original point.
