I'm talking about for new Trek. I do not want Q. AGT was good, but I would pass on "Q Who."

Yes. I get it. It's a well done episode that had long and irritating consequences to the franchise. I have the same reservations regarding The Wrath of Khan. Star Trek is too quick to clutch its pearls and become mired in its own self-importance of past glories. The lesson illustrated above seems lost on Star Trek production teams that in order to do something they have to stop playing it safe.

If avoiding Q means avoiding the Borg then I will be willing to give it up.

I understand what you're saying, I just think you're throwing the baby out with the bath water. I don't think TNG benefits from loosing the judge from "Encounter at Farpoint" and "All Good Things...", but I do think it benefits from loosing the Cosmic Fool who pops in from time to time to annoy everybody. The idea that humanity is always on trial appeals to me. While "Q Who" is a bit of both the judge and the fool, but I feel it leans more towards the former than the latter.

Now, getting rid of Q from Voyager, I'm totally on board with that. It's like: "Dude, you could just snap your fingers and we're home. WT actual F?!!!"

Basing decisions on the show on merchandising that doesn't exist rather than trying to tell a decent story.

I see the appeal and am OK with it as it is. However, I do not want Q to continue in this role for Picard. I would like them to move forward and I see using Q as going backward. It is a very bad habit that Trek likes to do.

Regardless, I do not care for Q and would not be sad to see him go.

Would it help if we teamed him up with the CGI alien monkey from the Lost In Space movie, and perhaps Snarf from the original Thundercats cartoon? Put them all in a Type-15 shuttlecraft painted like the Mystery Machine with Picard and Lwaxana Troi and have them all searching the galaxy for space ghosts. What do you think?

    Picard get space cancer.

The only cure is genetic resequnceing which federation free healthcare does not offer.
As Picard has never been paid, and so has no money he cant afford private care.

So Picard and Wesley crusher team up to make space meth.

Picard has to hide his growing drug empire from his wife ( beverly)while getting into all sorts of escapades with the orion syndicate.

Pulasky and Leffler go on a mission to safe Thomas Riker who they find half-dead and missing arms and legs on a cardassian prison planet. As they run from the Cardies, trying to keep Thomas alive, they cross into former romulan territory. They find the remains of the Borg-Tech that Nero used to borgify the Narada and use it on Thomas. He recovers fast but turns into a Borg/Human hybrid. As he is still mad about the Marquis/Federation Situation he starts attacks on various Federation Ships and Outposts.
Picard hears about this later on from Section 31 HQ, run by B4. He decides to try to find Riker and talk some sense into him. The Chase goes well for Picard, so Thomas decides to escape through the bajoran Wormhole. As both Ships (Rikers and Picards) enter the Wormhole, Picard can convince the Sisko to not let Riker out of the other side. His wish is seemingly granted. But then Q (the female one from Voyager) shows up...
(Riker exits in the far future - TBC on Discovery)

Well, the shows are commercial products, if they don't make money from various sources they don't stay in production. Discovery is making enough money to remain, although better merchandising would (apparently) help.

It's all a part of the overall mix. Maybe the toy manufacturers should simply have a say in the design of the ships and uniforms, and let the writers concentrate on the stories?

That should be the title of the new series.

Star Trek: Picard gets Space Cancer.

People keep saying they want their particular demography to be represented. 1.5 million people (US) have cancer, and over 20 million worldwide.

CBS has made more money from their streaming signups and selling to Netflix for international broadcast than they have done through negligible merchandising from the show. Seeing as how pretty all merchandise for Trek these days is limited to TOS and occasionally TNG and NuTrek they aren't taking much risk by even straying into fan favourites such as DS9 or VOY.

Which is pretty much my original point. So much of what the studio will want from the show will be what they can sell for merchandising but with no one making it then the point is moot, but this will still be the studios main concern rather than the quality of the show itself.

Largely because they fear losing money. Not sure how that fear can be alleviated.

A disillusioned Picard is making a living outside of Starfleet after he was dishonerably discharged. See, he really took Kirk's advice to never let Starfleet transfer him or promote him to heart.

So sometime after Nemesis he is offered to become admiral. And he's like, nu-uh. And they're like, you gotta, you old. And he's like, I keep the ship? And they're like, no, admirals don't get ships they get paperwork and to be evil. And he's like, then I don't wanna! And they're like, you must, we need the ship so Harry Kim can finally be captain!! And long story short, he punched an admiral.

Now he's taken a misfit crew onto a secret mission he keeps them largely in the dark about: Finding a time crystal so he can go to the past and kill Harry Kim so he gets to stay captain of the Enterprise. And in the climax the crew find out, and we've a heart-wrenching scene where they talk him from that ledge, and he realizes that if he does something so evil he truly is an admiral and that realization makes him stop. In the end he decides he might as well save Romulus with the crystal instead. And he does. The end.
