It's funny. This whole thread sounds like the doom and gloom about TNG never getting the HD treatment after they finished TOS. I'm not saying it's a sure thing, but I remain fairly optimistic it'll get done eventually.
FrontierTrek- are you aware of any information as to whether CBS have considered TNG-R a success or a failure?
FrontierTrek kept saying that the remastering of DS9 was solely dependent on TNG disc sales. If that is the case, then we have to work under the assumption that they were disappointing overall.
I don't recall saying that BillJ, certainly not so bluntly and not in recent memory. In fact I've made several statements contradicting this belief.
Not specifically. CBS's deal with TNG-r was multi-pronged, Blu-ray sales were only a small part of it.
AFor both Netflix and Amazon Prime the various Trek shows are some of their most popular streaming products.

Says who? I'm speaking from irgnorance here as I truly have no idea how popular Trek shows are when it comes to streaming. However, I would be surprised if it were anything more than a niche market (as has been the case with Star Trek since the early to mid 90s in every other respect).

I recall either Robert Meyer Burnett or Mike Okuda suggesting something to that effect but I don't remember anyone from Trekcore saying it.

There was this CBS press conference longer ago and the question popped up what had to be done to see DS9-R. The reply - as most people understood it - was that we all have to buy TNG-R first to make that happen, i.e. generate good TNG-R sales figures.

Yes, and as I recall, the quote was more along the lines of "One thing you can do to show your support for these and future (i.e. DS9) projects is to buy the blurays" -- not, "either buy the blurays or no DS9."I recall either Robert Meyer Burnett or Mike Okuda suggesting something to that effect but I don't remember anyone from Trekcore saying it.

I believe it was an interview with the Okudas. Not something TrekCore/FrontierTrek said directly.

But it's important to remember that TOS and TNG bluray sales were never the only factor, just one part of larger plan of future proofing series.Yes, and as I recall, the quote was more along the lines of "One thing you can do to show your support for these and future (i.e. DS9) projects is to buy the blurays" -- not, "either buy the blurays or no DS9."I believe it was an interview with the Okudas. That's clearly the inference though. Logically, if TNG Blu-ray sales are poor, CBS aren't going to pay far more money to remaster a less popular show.

But the differences with TNG are significant. First, the market for DS9 is somewhat smaller. Niners like myself are avid fans, but there just aren't as many of us as there are for TNG. Second, the cgi factor, as FrontierTrek said, makes it more expensive to rebuild DS9.
And so the smaller market and the higher costs make this more of an uphill climb. Add to that people "who are waiting for the complete set to go on sale," and you see the strong possibility that it may, in fact, never go on sale.
No you don't. You just have to offer what people want for a price they're comfortable paying. If you don't want people to wait for the complete set then you have to do something to make the individual releases special i.e. Steelbook packaging.
