I want a Garth show. No bias whatsoever.
Identifying with characters (actors) is the no.1 reason why people watch things. You can change everything around them entirely - in fact, TMP very much changed EVERYTHING from TOS, and TWOK almost everything again. And yet people still followed it. Because they liked the characters/actors combination.
Sure, there was a lot of criticism about everything else - people didn't like the pace and costumes and plot of TMP, others not the violence of TWOK. And the discussion about how realistic the "refit" is is still ongoing, 50 years later. But people liked the actors and following the characters.
That's why I think even people that don't like DIS want a Pike show. They will still complain about everything else - the set designs, canon, whatever... But people actually do like Pike. The problem is DIS entirely hinges on Burnham, and not everyone is sold on her. I like her well enough, but by god do I think the show would improve of they slowly switch to an ensemble-way of storytelling and giving other characters spotlight-episodes.
If we're going that route, then I want a Captain Davey Blornhower show.I want a Garth show. No bias whatsoever.
My absolutely, 100% unbiased, non-fanboy opinion is that a 'Captain Killy escapes from Rura Penthe and becomes a space pirate' show is exactly what this franchise needs. If we're going that route, then I want a Captain Davey Blornhower show.

I think ... it appears to be just a bit more faithful to the TOS version though.

It always bugged me how you can't stand flat footed on those transporter pads. Looks like hell on the ankles.

You can never un-see it now.I have watched those movies a few times and I never noticed the uneven bubble below on transporters.
Interesting design choice.
I'm dead sure you've either misread my post or you've misread me. Never have I ever said I think Discovery is bad. You know this.
No. My argument is: if someone doesn't like Discovery for reasons besides Micheal Burnham or the Spore Drive, then what makes them think they'd like a Pike Series any better? If they don't like the writing style, then it doesn't matter what they make the show about.
They can like the actor, they can like the character, but if they don't like everything else about the production, then those two things can only do so much. This is why I question why someone who doesn't like the season structure, story structure, writing, or production style of Discovery would suddenly do a complete turn-around and like a Pike Series.
And Dave Scarpa proves my point. Not to mention others (not Dave) who got very creative with their criticisms of "Q&A". The stuff they came up with is as much from outer space as the stars in the sky.
They really did Lorca dirty in my opinion. I liked him a lot more before the big reveal of him being from the mirror universe. Star Trek seems to have a problem with just letting some characters be, for lack of a better word, "mean" without them being under an alien presence, Section 31, or from the mirror universe. Some captains just have different management styles.I'd rather have a Captain Lorca show at this point.

Wouldn't that just be Captain Jellico all over again? The trick is to just have Lorca be a bigger dick than his Mirror universe counterpart.![]()
