Doohan.Shatner.Takei

Jimmy Doohan has passed away. But we all know that he too had issues with Shatner. He wouldn't speak to Shatner outside of work....and yet why did Jimmy Doohan get a pass from Takei's wrath.

We all know that Doohan was set to do the voice of Sulu for TAS. And Majel was going to do Uhura's. Hmmmmm...So Doohan/Majel had no problem getting paid to imitate a black woman/asian male who, by their own accounts, had a hard time finding work in those days....

Oh well...I guess Mr. Sulu can point his phaser at who ever he wants too. And that selective memory goes a long way too..

This may just be my screwy memory but I seem to distinctly recall Shatner, Nimoy and Kelley were VERY vocal (in fact refusing to do the series) about Takei and Nichols voicing their parts.

Also, Deforest Kelley would not speak to Shatner outside of work some time during season 2 for about a year because Shatner made fun of Deforest's dog dieing or Shatner did not take it (the dog's death) as a serious issue and Deforest was offended.

Not surprising Stern and Takei are buddies. Both are extremely immature.

Shatner makes this claim in one of his books (I think it's Star Trek Movie Memories), but I don't know if this has ever been corroborated by anyone else. Certainly I don't think Doohan ever mentioned it, but then he didn't give an awful lot of interviews after he became ill.

IIRC, In Star Trek: Movie Memories, Shatner talks about being very nervous going into the first day of shooting for Generations because it was with Doohan and Keonig...the two that "hated me the most", or words to that effect. He goes on to say that Doohan and him ended up getting along quite well once he arrived, much to Shatners relief.

So by this, I assume that they didn't kiss and make up beforehand, but nevertheless, seemed to get along once shooting began. This is of course only Bill's side of the story...

I have to say though I really enjoyed Movie Memories. I've read quite a few Star Trek books/biographies, etc., and this one was definitely my favorite. Second on my list was probably "Inside Star Trek: The Real Story" by Justman and Solow.

Or at least nothing he won't say; I got that notion when I heard him narrating the audio version of his book, opening with the tale of Koko the gorilla grasping onto his tackle.

From what I have read of this incident, De's little dog ran head first into a sprinkler head and died.

When De relayed this sad incident to Bill Shatner, Bill cracked up about it, and this is why De did not speak to Bill for some time.
