Come to think of it, the LD costumes are really a refined version of the aborted Generations costumes. Another deep cut on the show.

I feel like that's happenstance, and the show was going more for the look of the Monster Maroons that Picard also ended up doing for season 2 and 3.

I think the alt-GENs were supposed to invoke the Maroons.

I don't care if they are impractical as daily duty uniforms or not, I still think nothing they've done has ever looked as good as the Monster Maroons. Though I think the TNG season 3+ uniforms are a decent second place.

That was always the impression I had from the Generations action figures.
