Donny’s Late TOS Movie Era Interiors

Eh, I don't know. I'm having trouble visualizing this room in TUC fashion. I just don't feel like it even belongs on the TUC Enterprise-A. But we'll see; maybe I'll get inspired at some point to try and flesh that out.

Modeled the door last night; my first time modeling a door with moulded bits. Was a lot of fun actually, and getting to work with wood texturing is a refreshing change.

All my life I thought those windows were glass, but it turns out it two alternating screens of some sort of elongated hexagonal mesh:
It's work like this which gives me the itch to watch TFF again. Looking good, Donny!!!

Awesome work Donny! I especially like how you worked a couple subtle scratches into the wood to give make it seem more real.

Props to Zimmerman for the design. It perfectly fits the aesthetic of that room - which plays a significant role in the movie - they got good mileage out of that set. Any time characters are there it is to reflect upon the past - past family, past mistakes. It makes perfect sense that this room had some older style relics, wood doors and an old wood captains wheel. A bold choice considering that at this point in Star Trek we very seldom see wood in universe despite most of the sets being constructed from it. Aside from the lounge in ST3, the only other example that comes to mind is the horseshoe rail in TNG and the bridge rails in TFF. I kind of wish the sound designers embraced the chance to do a different sound for it instead of the standard TOS movie door sound.

Yes, the window wall was actually curved in a segmented fashion and angled outward to match that of the saucer rim's edge. Great care seems to have been taken to match the curvature of the saucer rim, even though there are no windows of this type in this location of the Enterprise filming model. Here is an image of my set (built to the schematics) with my 1000' Connie Refit model's saucer over it. You'll see it's a match.

But, as stated before the set is taller than the 10 foot deck height, so it has to be positioned below the centerline of the saucer's edge.

It's supposed to be at the very front tip of the saucer given the movement of the stars and the way the set was built, but there are no windows on the exterior model to match. I believe I read at one point that they were going to add the windows to the model but ultimately did not.

This CGI artist put the windows in that same location as well in his redo of some TFF effect shots.

I quite like that. I always wanted the Enterprise-A to have some slight physical difference from the refit Enterprise beyond the "-A". Some subtle change that casual viewers wouldn't really notice or care about but that we'd know was there.

That zoom into the front window's not bad, tho the text under the window is stupid. Who would ever see it?

The lens flares...stop with the lens flares unless they are extant in the rest of the film.

Very fitting! Looks fantastic, as usual.

The transmitter itself is such a strange addition, but makes sense for the film to use that location again.

Just been catching up on the last few pages - I love the TFF corridors. The lighting is just gorgeous and works perfectly with the bridge. I bet Zimmerman would have loved to have been able to do something like that.

The pen also has potential applications that include molding, embossing, aerosol printing, and inkjet printing.

"By using our setup, or similarly designed ones, it will be possible to pattern into existing devices, microreactors, or hard-to-reach surfaces, on the fly and intuitively," said Hirtz. "This micropen can work with many different types of inks, in a timely and suitable way, enabling users to write in a controlled, microprecise level."

Is this relevant to the thread in some way I’m missing? Or was your account hacked and now it’s posting spam?

Yeah, I‘m not seeing the relevance either. @publiusr, please try sticking to posting stuff that‘s actually pertaining to the topic at hand.

I figured those might be of some use to your projects. It would be nice to see your creations 3D printed one day.
Ah, I see. Well, I'll be honest...and I hate to disappoint...but I've never had any interest in making my models available for printing, nor are they optimized properly for printing. There's a good amount of work that would go into making them ready for printing, as these are game-resolution models. Much of the detail is dependent on normal maps, displacement maps and the like, and I generally delete any unnecessary polygons that would never be seen by the "player", therefore many of the meshes are not solid objects in a 3D sense. Anyway, I appreciate the work that others do in the 3D printing realm, but I've just never had much interest in it. Thanks for the suggestions though!
