That's totally besides the point. Saying "Message in a Bottle" would have been better with a DS9 crossover doesn't makes much more sense than saying any other episode would have been better with it.
Except that the TNG folks weren't actively producing at the time this episode aired.
TNG itself may not, but the Enterpise-E would be in-service. This episode takes place after First Contact.Except that the TNG folks weren't actively producing at the time this episode aired.
Without ruining it for the OP, there were 4 cameos by TNG cast members in Voy.TNG itself may not, but the Enterpise-E would be in-service. This episode takes place after First Contact.Except that the TNG folks weren't actively producing at the time this episode aired.
Message in a Bottle aired during season 6 of Deep Space Nine. They had another season and a half to do a crossover, if they wanted to.The thing to remember is that the DS9 sets were pulped, stolen and sold the day after production wrapped on the final episode.
They had a window and it closed, even if it was open when Message in a Bottle aired.
I read your spoiler, but I was mainly speculating that an appearance by the Enterprise-E would have made more sense than an appearance by DS9 or any of it's crew.Without ruining it for the OP, there were 4 cameos by TNG cast members in Voy.
Riker in "Deathwish" was the first. So being out of production did mean anything.

I maintain that they didn't want to, and it wasn't needed.

Except it kind of does given that one of the main plot points of MiaB is Voyager establishing contact with the Federation for the first time since the show began.
I like that they start that episode looking to buy some weapons to fight the Hirogen (even if they don't end up doing so). It's a nice nod to continuity.
Agreed. I hope they keep the story arcs going. I'm really liking the Hirogen and I hope that there are more episodes featuring them to come.
BTW, it's been quite a while since we've seen the Vidiians. Are they ever going to return to the show?
Another completely random question: Why is Harry Kim a senior officer? I'm sure there are plenty of other SF officers that outrank him, and yet none of them are senior officers. What makes Harry so special? This is something that's been bothering me for quite some time. I've just kept forgetting to ask you folks on Trekbbs. Hopefully one of you experts can shed some light on this.
Harry graduated at the top of his class.
He actually shows evidence of it in the very next episode that Screed will be watching. He is a very capable engineer.Harry graduated at the top of his class.
Really? Too bad he shows, like, zero evidence of it over the course of the series.
It's not as if Message in a Bottle is the last episode of the series, there are 3.5 seasons left to go. Plenty of time to do something that you would consider "spectacular". And I don't want to spoil anything, but since you keep bringing it up, this will not be the last time they contact the Alpha Quadrant, not by a long-shot.Exactly. With Voyager contacting the Alpha Quadrant they had the chance to do something really spectacular.

Although to be fair, its really just a drop in the ocean. Voyager should have been doing stuff like this FAR more often.
