Discovery Season Four: Predictions, Speculation & Off The Wall Theories

It is just a matter of primary function of the tech and money, cause it costs money.
Look around. CPU and RAM vary depending the funcion of the tech. You don´t have the same amount of CPU, RAM and HD in a simple PC as you have in a super-computer, as you won´t have the same ammount in a droid as you´ll have in a starship computer. Sounds logical no?
Not in the 32nd century, no.

It's been that way for decades. Any long running franchise will have the same problem. Things change. Time and technology march on. It's not a jigsaw puzzle. everything doesn't have to fit perfectly. Toss out what doesn't work anymore and bring in something new. It's fiction and entertainment not science or history.

Except Calypso and DSC season 3 was only separated by less than two years. So it’s not like the 45+ years separating TOS and DSC.

So? It's an on going production. Changes will be made, plans will be altered and inspiration will take them in new directions. TOS was constantly evolving, especially in Season One. It's the nature of television.

None of which negates my statement.

I’m not ‘proving’ anything. I’m saying that any attempt to link the two will end up being contrived because of the inherent differences. In my opinion, it would be better to not even bother trying to link them.

Fiction is by its nature contrived. If they want to link it then it will no doubt feel forced no matter what they do.

The only problem is the ship looks different, which is only a problem if you want it to be a problem. Plans changed between Calypso and Season Three. Roll with it.

It’s not the only problem. The V’Draysh are portrayed as nothing like the 32nd century Federation. Either Craft was completely biased, misinformed, or lying, or the V’Draysh were not the Federation even though that was Chabon’s intent. And since they’ve already been referred to by that term in DSC, the second option is moot.

And as for the look of the ship: it has nothing to do with whether I ‘want it to be a problem.’ The ship looks different. That’s a fact. They will either address this discrepancy or they won’t. My point is that if they address it, whatever reason they come up with for the change will be contrived, IMHO.

Burnham will always be right about everything, no matter how she gets to that conclusion. And all the other characters will kiss her ass.
So she's a female version of Jean-Luc Picard, got it.

(And please do remember even at the end of the first season of "Picard", Jean-Luc Picard was proven right, And the Admiral sent William Riker in command of a fleet to save the Federation and the Galaxy.:rommie:)

As regards Calypso - does anyone really expect the writers and producers to tie themselves in knots trying to contrive an explanation of how it fits in to what's been shown?

No one cares. It was a random outside-the-box encounter that's now been rendered moot by the actual series. Simple as that.

Trying to get Star Trek Discovery to mesh with a 15 minute Short Trek that's now over two years old is like the tail wagging the dog.

Why would they have to be? Calypso probably takes place long after the 32nd Century, maybe the 42nd Century. The V’Draysh might be what remains of the Federation in the 42nd Century or a splinter group.

Many things in Star Trek look different from one episode/movie to the next and have zero impact on the stories being told. The fact they are different isn't an in-universe problem.
The smart thing for the showrunners to do is ignore it (and fan demands for an explanation) like their predecessors have done countless times before. Or they can repeat the Klingon forehead fiasco.

No need to reference anything. Not everything needs an explanation.

The Odo/Bashir/O'Brien/Worf exchange in Trials & Tribbleations was exactly how continuity errors should be handled - a quick wink at the audience to acknowledge that stuff has changed and then move on. "We don't discuss it with outsiders."

Perfect.

Yeah, the visuals are flexible enough throughout Trek to accommodate differences.

Because they aren't the 32nd Century Federation.

The events of Calypso take place long after the events of DSC Season 3.

Michelle Paradise has said that this assessment is incorrect.

DSC will eventually link up with the events of Galileo as per her most recent comments.

I give it about 50/50 odds that the sphere data is given a more humanoid body, like Edy from Mass Effect 3, and she? will have a romance with somebody.
