Hmm, a return to the Klingon war storyline and no more Lorca, I'm not exactly brimming with confidence. Hopefully we'll get a good episode about using unsavory tactics in war time.
Mind meld interrogations? Testing for Mirror counterparts? I wonder what ISS Discovery has been up to...
Good to see they're using the Andorians and Tellarites again and that it wasn't just a one off appearance a few weeks ago.

As I said elsewhere, I'm really, really hating the "small quadrant" aspect of Discovery. Sarek and Cornwell are basically the only recurring characters (other than Mudd I guess) left in the Prime Universe who aren't dead. So of course they're going to show up again. It's like this takes place in a small town in Alaska instead of across thousands of light years.
As an aside, I wonder if we're actually going to have a new Klingon heavy appear on screen to make up for Kol being dead? I'm guessing not actually - the Klingons will remain faceless (aside from L'Rell/Voq) until this is resolved.

You know that the majority of TV and movies use the "small world" approach to their storylines, right? This is hardly even a criticism.
Oh, I'm sure that will be revealed to be as unexpected and unpredicted as the other major story turns in the series.

I thought the more standard thing to do was to have a separate POV for recurring characters, which eventually merges with the main story as it builds towards a climax. Discovery really only did that with the Klingons.
Regardless, "small world" is less excusable in the Trekverse, as we're talking about trillions of Federation inhabitants. In addition, unlike DS9 (where characters could recur more than once per season) Discovery isn't staying in one place. They should be meeting new people all the time. Indeed, as the main purpose of guest characters is to help develop/provide a foil for the main characters, there's no particular reason to keep recycling.
Cornwell's team boards via transporter. From a ship that has her shields up? Admittedly to a ship that may be damaged or out of oomph in many ways, but supposedly beaming out is hindered by shields, too.
Except of course it isn't - nobody ever says as much. And the very first episode to introduce a limitation, "A Taste of Armageddon", has people beaming out through raised shields without as much as triggering an alarm on the bridge.
As for recurring, Cornwell has a personal and professional bee in her bonnet about the Discovery. She should rightfully be involved in a starship hunt in person. It's Sarek's presence that is more complicated, and perhaps convoluted, but then again, it's his daughter aboard...

I hope not. The last time she tried to be we had that embarrassing Klingon screaming scene.
It's not standard, but it would certainly be a refreshing approach on this show.
For all the tinsel, this narrative remains pretty much a simple, linear TV storyline.
You know, I would be totally down with Cornwell as the new commanding officer of the Discovery. She seems like the most competent person for the job among the existing characters, and it could be justified, story-wise, after all the crazy business this season. I'd much rather see her in the captain's chair than Saru or Burnham.
They have to bring an ambassador along to screen the senior officers? There's no Vulcan Starfleet officers who could do that? Even if Spock can't be brought in because of reasons, what about the 400 Vulcans serving on the Intrepid? Or are we that determined to leave the Constitution class ships out of the war?
The only "modern TV" I'm really aware of is The Expanse and Game of Thrones, and they certainly do it with multiple POVs.
Actually, I recently caught up with Stranger Things, and that's pretty much how it worked as well - at least for the first season.
What shows have the same recurring characters popping up again and again in more traditional narrative format exactly?
