Smoking something would have helped.
I watched this episode again for the first time in a decade last week. I understand what the writers were trying to do, give a send-off to the whole Star Trek franchise, but it was very poorly executed. The Riker plot completely removes all the tension from a far superior episode of TNG and adds nothing to Enterprise as a show. The regular characters are guests in their own program.
Added on top of this are all the smaller problems. Trip and T'Pol's relationship ended off screen, Travis and Hoshi are still ensigns, no mention of the Romulan War. It's like the writers hit the fast forward button but forgot that time actually passed. I'm okay with Trip's death, I could see him giving his life for Archer, but it too was poorly executed and had no impact on either the plot or even the other characters besides Archer or T'Pol.
In the end, they should've just given Enterprise its own finale. Demons/Terra Prime works but doesn't have the same impact as All Good Things, What You Leave Behind or Endgame.

How about instead of a holodeck episode the D, it could be a holosuite episode. Heck, a Ferengi episode where Zek, and Moogie, and all our other favorite characters keep showing up.
You see, Rom is now the Grand Nagus, and he gotz no experience as a leader. He's also a Humonn lover... So, he visits Quark's little bar with his entourage from Ferenginar, and goes to the holosuite to play simulations of famous Starfleet leaders...his heroes.

I would have let Manny Coto do the ORIGINAL 3 part ending he planned - instead of cutting it to two parts, because Berman and Braga wanted to do the Final Episode even after not really having been involved much the the actual production/writing of ithe "Enterprise" series throughout Season 4.

Give them another three seasons, include the Romulan war and the founding of the Federation, show Archer giving a speech in the background with T'Pol telling Tucker, Phlox has found a way to successfully combine Human and Vulcan DNA and is looking for test subjects. She holds out her fingers with right brow raised and they give each other a Vulcan kiss.

In my head canon, Terra Prime is the series finale.
As an alternative, I have heard of a concept that in order to bring about the end of the Temporal Cold War the Enterprise has to enter a temporal rift, and is lost in time forever. They stop the war, but there is no fame, no glory, and no recognition.
Looks like Berman and Braga really did believe they were sending a valentine to the fans but instead they got too self-serving and ended up writing a valentine to themselves. They were patting themselves on the back for 25 seasons of Trek over 18 years when they should have been focused on giving Enterprise a good sendoff. Ego got in the way and they didn't realize it. Maybe that's what's fans are picking up on and that's what's putting them off.
Enterprise still got a good send off whether TATV was made or not.
I recently skipped through parts of this episode again and I think one of the big problems is that it uses tng when Frakes and Sirtis are visibly much older than they were in tng. Making it Titan era Riker would have helped, although it'd still have the issue of being a holodeck episode
That would have been slighlty better but as you ay you still have the problem of it being a holodeck episode. You could have used the seting as the fouding of the UFP as a back drop and have some faction trying to stop it and use Daniels trying to make sure history goes as planned (don't get me wrong I'm no fan of the TCW) but at least it would remove the holodeck element.

Set the finale shortly after Terra Prime, no skip forward in time, no Riker/Troi, no death of Trip.
At the end of the finale (whatever it involved), like with Turnabout Intruder and All Good things the crew of the NX-01 sails away to their next adventure.

Yes it did. If you have the chance not to see this episode then avoid it like the plague! It does nothing for the series or the characters except leave a bitter taste in your mouth, which is a shame after things started to pick up.
I wouldn't be so cynical and self centered as to think of it as the end of Trek. Let Enterprise end as it's own thing and not use TNG characters.
