DEFIANCE Season 3

I thought that was a really good episode. It delved into the (unpleasant) pasts of Nolan and Irisa and brought a lot of character development.

I am loving this season so much more than the first two. You know the copy of Doc Yewell is not getting destroyed.

Has it been mentionend before and I have missed it, does Rahm Tak oficially represent the whole of the VC or is this his own little, extrimist crusade? When they talked about the VC before they sounded more... reasonable.

I'd be inclined to assume he represents a more extremist fringe, who felt the VC should have finished the job in the Pale Wars. I could be wrong on that, but I don't get the impression that the majority of Votans want another full scale war.

I know a lot of stuff has talked about him as he leader of the VC, but I'm not sure if that is all of the VC or just the military.
Really enjoyed the flashbacks for Nolan and Irisa. I was a little surprised that they threw in the whole thing with Irisa never having like killing, since she never really seemed to have much of a reaction to it in the past. It'll be very interesting to see where the Nolan/Irisa relationship goes from here.
I did not expect Alak to escape from Gen. Tak so early, I was figuring that whole thing was going to go on for most of the season. It'll be interesting to see what happens with him and his parents now.

They don't have a division between political leadership and military percussion?

I'd imagine Rahm Tak kills where he is told to kill an stops killing when he is told to stop.

A very blunt weapon.

or he could be the type who will kill any messenger who's sent to tell him to stop.

I think he's rogue but happy to use the VC name, especially as his power and numbers have grown.

That was an excellent episode.

"Grandma Stahma loves purple-enchanter penis so much.."

The flashbacks were great, that's how flashbacks should be done! They have upped my previously non-existent interest in Nolan and Irisa quite significantly.

Laughed at the misspelling on the newscreen:

I assumed they misspelled imminent rather than used the wrong word. If they used the wrong word it is somehow even stupider. '

No grammar involved.

Prolly ark fall's fault..

They probably mispelled it, ran it through a spellcheck and accepted the first correction without noticing the change in grammar.

Or perhaps on purpose? Someone trying to send a message?

I agree....it makes their relationship make much more sense and not so forced (where other episodes he keeps SAYING Irisa is his daughter...this episode it felt like it)

And for me, it make this past seasons "I don't want to kill" make a lot more sense. Previously, I thought this came out of nowhere...but evidently this is the "real" Irisa.

Datak & Stahma are so despicable, but soooo excellently portrayed. Between Datak's quips, and Stahma's fake innocent laughs... they deserve awards

Oh yes...Alak's story wil be interesting..i do hope he gets a chance to thank Nolan & Irisa though. Their saving the baby i'm sure has completely solidified respect & loyalty to them.

I 'm thinking Rahm Tak (hmm... same name as Chicago's mayor...and so similar in many ways...why oh why didn't this show air BEFORE the mayoral elections!) is a rogue kind of "cult" leader. Maybe it's just the production & direction, but Rahm's army seems pretty small..big enough for a formidable cult, small enough to not actually be the VC army.

This was a great episode. Lots of character development for Nolan and Irisa, and with Nolan we learn some interesting details of his past. I especially liked the stuff with his sister, who basically made him who he now is.

I'm hoping they keep that vet who was rescued from Pottinger's bunker last week. Mainly because him and Yewll have such a great rapport with each other already. Keeping him around as her assistant or nurse or whatever might be fun.

Great cliffhanger with Alak returning and pissed with his mother. Sure, I'm pretty certain Stahma's going to survive, but it's still a great way to end the episode.

Has it been mentionend before and I have missed it, does Rahm Tak oficially represent the whole of the VC or is this his own little, extrimist crusade? When they talked about the VC before they sounded more... reasonable.

One important fact to remember, like the Earth Republic, the Votanis Collective essentially no longer has official leadership since Irisa destroyed their capital city along with New York. Rahm Tak could very well be the highest ranking military officer left living in the VC, or at the very least one of the more influential.

He was apparently legendary during the Pale War, but presumably the VC government realized he wouldn't work out in peace time, so they gave him some out of the way command where he can contribute (likely training soldiers or officers) but not have any kind of official power with the government or the senior military command. Then the VC government is eliminated, and suddenly there are no officers outranking Rahm Tak left, or if there are they're likely paper-pushing bureaucrats who yield to Tak's superior field experience. With no civilian leadership left, or at least none who would dare oppose someone like Tak, he basically has carte blanche to do as he pleases. Which he clearly is.

I forgot about the stuff with Nolan's sister, that was pretty great, and it does explain a lot about why he is the way he is.

Now that's very interesting. Who would bother to rein him in even if they wanted to. They are probably scrambling for power in more important places, the ones that are left.

Does everyone, as in the VC, know the details of what destroyed their cities? I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't some propaganda that the humans took control of the ship and did it.

Anyone else thing Nolan's sister looked quite a lot like Irisa?

Yeah I hope they keep the vet too. He is oddly sweet.
