DEFIANCE Season 3

We also got a definitive answer about Rahm Tak's role in the VC. He is not the total leader of the whole thing. I wonder if the VC leaders who tried to call him off will come into play later? They did send his wife, who is not coming back, so I could see them wanting to know what happened.

Said up thread he was probably the type to shoot the messenger :)

Well his wife did say they would try to stop him if he didn't call it off.

I have a question.. the BABY. His eyes. I know they aren't sticking contacts into a baby's eyes so is it all added later?
I was thinking about that as I watched the scene with Alak holding Luke. Surely, the baby's eyes are cgi - they looked so, I don't know, perfect and round. But Alak's didn't look similar enough, so I suspect just the baby's are added later while the adults are wearing contacts.

I don't know about DEFIANCE, but on iZOMBIE Liv's blood-red zombies eyes are done by CGI. Apparently they used red contact lenses in the pilot, but they irritated the actress's eyes so much they switched to CGI for the rest of the series.

^Why? Now I need to rewatch.

As to the baby.. he is also very white and I don't think they are putting white makeup on him. The whole baby apaz needs to be cgi'd for colour. This baby could be getting a bit expensive, might need to have him kidnapped again

Okay, if they kill Julie Benz, I'm outta there. It's not just her braid I'm in love with.

Ooh, this was such a great episode. I like Alak's story this week, turning in his parents, the way him and Nolan put on that act to get Datak talking, the budding friendship that seems to be developing between him and Nolan and him and Irisa.

Something that's been on my mind ever since a few weeks back when we see Irisa handing the baby over to Datak and Stahma, has Irisa had any kind of meaningful interaction with any of the Tarrs prior to this season? Nothing comes to mind, but I'm not sure if I'm forgetting anything. If this is indeed so, than this is pretty impressive, they went from Irisa having no interaction with any of the Tarrs to her possibly being shipped with Alak, and it actually feels natural and not at all forced.

It's also kind of interesting that Alak, like his mother is one of the few Votans who doesn't show any fear towards the Omec. In fact, he was making no effort to hide him checking out T'evgin's daughter until T'evgin snapped at him. Then he only showed the fear of a guy worried he's pissed off a girl's father.

So we learn that Rahm Tak is indeed a renegade and the VC disapprove his actions. Okay, last week we were discussing just how legitimate Tak could be, but I would have preferred my take, a feared and notorious military legend taking advantage of a power vacuum. But, what the hell, I guess what we got is workable. And we now know that the barbarism he's been displaying is the result of his own fucked up nature and that the VC themselves are somewhat civilized.

I don't know, the Omec are starting to turn unintentionally amusing with their antics. I'm not just talking about the incest, although that was certainly the highlight of this week's Omec subplot. T'evgin displays a sort of snootiness that's hard to articulate in words. Also, the fact that him and his daughter were just strutting around in their underwear this week for no real reason is a total WTF but adds to their wackiness.

And while I know Defiance is a town with limited resources, with two dangerous fugitives on the lose, one would think they'd beef security up a little for the mayor's office. Even not, surely Amanda can't be the only one in the building during her fight with Stahma. Wouldn't a gunshot in the mayor's office be heard, and have the Lawkeepers descending on the place like mad dogs?

I don't know where everyone gets that her character might be dead, seeing as Stahma said she wasn't going to kill her before walking out, plus she's in the preview for next weeks episode.

Speaking of the baby, does anyone else remember it being referred to as 'she' or 'her' just after being born and for an episode or two after, before references to it became 'him' or 'son'?

Was there some reason its true gender was being kept a secret to protect it from someone, that I missed?

I asked a friend who also watches this show if she noticed this oddity and she agreed, she too thought the baby had previously been referred to as female.

Don't count on my word for it but I think I previously heard Alak say something about his son. I'm really not sure though.

No, the baby has always been referred to as a boy since he was first seen on the show. It was in his first episode that we learn his name was Luke, so it would be very odd indeed if anyone said she or her.

Sounds like Spot syndrome.

Carrying high, It's a boy. Carrying low, it's a girl. Carrying diagonally and slightly to the left, it's a Castie.
