Spoilers Deadpool & Wolverine grade and discussion thread

No one does. It's like grimdark. It has a meaning to some, but that's it.
Well basically it means "pandering to the base" instead of "actually write something".
Back when Dr Strange 2 was coming out there were crazy theories about how it would have Jackman in it and the movie would have the MCU and the FoX-Men universe merge together into one timeline (no matter how that would mess things up) and the audience would see all the FoX-Men characters together with the MCU ones. Instead they were "disappointed" that the story just had one alternate universe with the Illuminati.
Here the movie literally just panders to the base and says "Here, here's all the leftover Fox characters and Jackman back again and X-23 back again but older and cameos from older FoX-Men movies and Deadpool fighting a bunch of other Deadpools and talk about merging with the MCU" instead of an actual plot.
At least they didn't go for the big theory that it would end with Deadpool and Logan at the Endgame battle and changing history so Tony didn't die and Steve didn't get old so that everything could be all about the OG Avengers forever.

Right now the three day opening weekend total puts it somewhere between $195-$205 million.
If so, then it would smash its own rated R opening weekend record.

Goddamn that was awesome - it's a complete assault on the senses, Disney, the Superhero genre and good taste - in short, it's a Deadpool movie!

Weakest part of the story is the villain as always with Disney, the one movie villains just don't click most of the time ( can count on one hand how many one movie villains were good) so that out of the way the rest of the movie is Deadpool amped up to 11, a non stop barrage of one liners, digs at the whole genre, foul mouthed jokes and blood spilling everywhere. This is definitely not a PG13 movie, so go see it.

What made me laugh were all the cameos and sort of digs at the whole Superhero Genre and especially Marvel.
X-23 i sort of expected, i knew about Ladypool but never in a million years would i have expected Wesley Snipes as Blade, Jennifer Garner as Elektra and Channing Tatum as what could have been Gambit. What killed me the most though was Chris Evans having a short role - everyone expects it to be Captain America but Johnny Storm?? And a foul mouthed Chris Evans is something i always hoped for but never dreamed of getting ( stay for the end credits though
)
Cassandra Nova was a weak villain, evil for evil sake's and quite forgetable but that was expected.
Hugh was great, allowed to let fly as Wolverine in an R Rated movie and they make liberal use of it. Loved the one variant of him being comicbook accurate 5'something tall and the entire irreverent intro scene of Deadpool digging out Logan's corpse and using the bones to fight off TVA agents to N'Sync's Bye Bye Baby.
Speaking of the songs - these are brilliantly selected and more than once had be bursting out laughing at the song choice for a particular scene.

Quick enough before there's pirated versions online and someone spoils things in the video title on Youtube ( happened more than once to me).
I have been on a sort of Deadpool embargo for the last few days, only opened one non-spoiler review and just skipped to the grade and closed the page again. Worth it.
Pretty sure there are already pirated versions. I saw post-credit pirated clips on youtube a day or two ago.

Saw the film yesterday, and I still have that Madonna song stuck in my head.

It was pretty good, IMHO. Definitely not what I was expecting (most of the movie being in The Void). I think it dragged a little in parts.
Loved the deep cut cameos (Elektra!). And of course Cap’s profane tirade was funny.
They need to start the Dogpool franchise, ASAP.

DC had the Batdog/Superdog team-up. MCU got Dogpool and Cosmo
It was what Channing Tatum wanted. He finally got his chance to play the role and lean-into the meta of it (like Nick Cage in The Flash).
It's a shame Deadpool kept his mask on otherwise we could get Blade commenting on how much Wade resembles his friend Hannibal King.
Well moving forward hopefully someone actually suitable to the role gets cast, like Austin Butler
I really enjoyed some of the unspoiled surprises in there.
It was definitely a bit too much. My wife's primary reaction was that it should have been 10 minutes shorter. Personally, I didn't need multiple Deadpool vs. Wolverine fights. The opening N'Sync battle worked because the stakes were Deadpool avoiding capture by an organization more than capable of taking and holding him. Wolvie and Wade can't die, so watching them try to kill each other means nothing.
Despite the complaints, we did enjoy it. There's not a lot to say about the good, because it's pretty much all right there: Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in a vulgar buddy movie action-adventure comedy. It has some laughs, some heart, some surprises, a ton of cameos. Not quite was good as I was hoping but better than I had feared.
Channing Tatum as Gambit highlighted for me how deeply strange it is that our culture now tells stories about the IP wrangling behind our stories, and further that filmmakers can reasonably expect people to be up to speed on this stuff. My wife had no idea who the character was or why he was significant, so I had to explain the whole inside baseball thing to her afterwards. As much as I enjoy this type of movie, it all reeks of a sort of Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire-level decadence.
Side question: did anyone else find the editing in some of the dialog scenes really distracting? During the initial interrogation between Paradox and Wade, there were four cameras setups and the editing cut between them every 1 - 2 seconds without motivation. Same for the birthday party sequence. There were also several edits throughout the movie that violated the 180 degree rule, which is pretty sloppy for a major studio. I don't normally notice editing, but these were so egregious they jumped out at me. Maybe it had something to with being filmed during the strike and using pickups to shoot rewritten dialog? I don't know.

Yeah, I wondered how Tatum's appearance as Gambit would land for certain fans and you make some good points. I guess Marvel figured that since the film is clearly geared towards those of us who've consumed so much of the MCU (and beyond) that most of us would already know that inside baseball. And for those who don't would simply enjoy seeing Tatum appear randomly in the film.
Huh, I didn't notice anything like that and usually that's the kind of thing would bother me.
Hulk and Gambit in the same movie? Never thought this could ever happen.

I enjoyed it. As someone particularly jaded with all things Marvel, it was just fun. Their tactics were transparent, but effective.
I tapped out after Thor 4; is this enough to win me back? I might be more receptive to what else they have in the pipeline, so I guess mission accomplished, Feige.
