I dunno, when Spider-Man is one of the more serious films on the list, that does indicate a bit of a swing towards comedy.

Black Widow - 6.6 - Red Guardian scenes are played for comedy
Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings - 7.4 - Humour mostly comes from comedy sidekick
Eternals - 6.3 - Pretty serious
Spider-Man: No Way Home - 8.2 - Surprisingly dark
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - 6.9 - Leans more toward horror
Thor: Love and Thunder - 6.2 - Goofy comedy
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - 6.7 - Serious
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania - 6.0 - Comedy
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 - 7.9 - Comedy
The Marvels - 5.5 - Lots of comedy moments
Deadpool and Wolverine - 7.7 - Comedy

I threw in their IMDb scores because I thought they might be interesting somehow. I guess they show that Marvel audiences are fine with comedy when it's done well.

What's wrong with not understanding why people like something so goofy? Especially when it's completely out of tone with how the MCU was first established. Sorry the MCU has turned into something sillier than Batman 66 imo. 😂

When you say things like 'I can't believe people eat this stuff up'. You're making them enjoying something sound like they're idiots or something.
A normal way would be to say 'This movie wasn't for me, the humor isn't my style. I'm glad others can enjoy it though'.
It's called communicating with respect to others.

I like that the MCU strives to encompass the range of tones of its source material. We get cute and charming like the Ms. Marvel comic. We get political thriller super-heroics in the Captain America movies. We get a blend of humor and action in the Guardians and Spider-Man movies. And we get 4th wall breaking action-comedy JUST LIKE IN A DEADPOOL COMIC or in certain runs of She-Hulk for that matter.

It's in the source material--the material that turned Deadpool into a hugely popular character.

You can say you don't like it, that its not your cuppa tea, that it doesn't turn your crank --or whatever, but it's still just your opinion and putting down others who like it doesn't make you look like a decent or considerate human being.

You are correct it is in the source material. But what you are forgetting is that there is a large amount of MCU fans that have never touched a comic in their lives. Knowing some people like this, they tell me it's gotten completely stupid and they don't watch anymore. They don't care if it's in the comics.
Even when I read books like She Hulk and Deadpool I thought the fourth was breaking was one of the stupidest things they would do. I don't want self aware characters that know they are a character in a movie. Takes me completely out of the story.

The MCU started out as something more mature and I crossed my fingers that they would not get into the silliness of the comics. Well they have in spades. Fourth wall breaking can be done as a narrative device like House of Cards. I would have gone for that. Light humor, yeah I would go for that. But we are getting slapstick in every film now.

I prefer the Tone they set early in the movie universe and The Netflix shows.

Going back a bit for a more basic point:
What's wrong with not understanding why people like something so goofy?
First off, it should be the goal for people to understand each other, so on that level there is something wrong with not understanding.
But, moving that more general point aside, there is nothing really wrong with not understanding the appeal of something to others. That's just a basic fact, you don't understand it. It's how you behave about it that matters.
You can choose to say "I don't understand it, but if it brings you joy, power to you, I don't need to watch it anyway".
Or you can be a dick about it.

I watched it finally.

It was okay.

About what I was expecting from Shawn Levy. He's incredibly consistent.

...everything he directs is roughly a 6.5 ;)

Well I can't believe it. Especially when genre fans had a big hairy fit over Jar Jar. Again I get that Deadpool breaks the fourth wall in the comics. But I would have preferred a more reasonable way of doing it in the films. And then the comedy just goes too far in these films now. It's all for laughs. The Marvels, the last two Thors....just completely off the rails with the comedy. GOTG does it better. With a nice mix of action, drama light comedy. Yeah they go a little far sometimes as well but not to the levels of stupid i saw in Dw.

Only a handful are "goofy juvenile comedy" And even in those it's only partial element.

Yes on that list..the Marvels, Thor, Antman are the worst offenders. The previous thor was really goofy as well but LT took it to a place where I just wanted to walk out.

Watched it last night, on Disney+.

A 'C-', and I feel like I'm being kind. It was so interested in the jokes and fourth wall breaks, that they forgot to pay any attention to the actual story. There are a few jokes that hit, but it is totally disposable entertainment that I can't ever see revisiting.

You're missing my point. It's fine if you don't like it. But you basically insult people that do. And that's not ok.

I watched the Assembled episode after my rewatch of the film and I was surprised how traditional of a behind-the-scenes documentary it was. I expected it to do some fun fourth-wall breaking antics like the entries for In the Multiverse of Madness and at least one other (probably She-Hulk) but instead it was a straight-forward breakdown of all of the major action sequences. Not that there's anything wrong with that but I was simply surprised by it is all.

That said, it was a lot of fun watching Levy, Reynolds, and Jackman talk about how they approached making this film and I particularly enjoyed seeing the in-the-moment workshopping of action sequences like the Odyssey set piece. The only disappointing part is we didn't get a Chris Evans interview. Alas.

Honestly, I have the exact opposite reaction to people like you and another poster on here. I don't understand why some people have such a problem with things being silly and fun. Like I said in that other thread, I watch stuff like this to escape the real world and to have fun. Now I do like some dark and serious stuff, so I don't expect everything to be like the movies you complained about, but I love it when they are. I was glad to see the MCU finally embracing the crazier stuff that a lot of comic adaptations had been avoiding for the last few decades.
She-Hulk busting out of Disney+ and going to confront K.E.V.I.N. is one of my favorite MCU moments.

I liked Deadpool and Wolverine, but the problem I have with franchises going She-Hulk is the same problem I had with the Ferengi episodes on Deep Space Nine: it becomes a struggle to take the rest of it seriously when parts of it are such a cartoon.

I think part of the reason that Deadpool poking fun at the Fox X-Men franchise has worked so well is that it had already become a joke. Logan aside, the Deadpool films were actually the most respectable X-Men movies they were putting out, so there was nothing left to damage, and now it's starting to feel like the same is true about the Marvel films. Once something reaches the self-parody stage and breaks the fourth wall it's hard to pull it back from that.

I get what you are saying. I like fun stuff also. But it has its place. When She Hulk busted out of the Disney + screen it was probably the stupidest thing I had seen from the MCU at that point. With the chicken dumpling god a close second that year.

A character with the power to visit the writers of her story and change it was just too much for me. Totally takes any drama from the MCU and sucks it dry. The fact that the MCU has a robot god named Kevin calling all the shots was also just too much for me. I felt the same way with the Show Supernatural. I loved it and then they couldn't let go of a character named Chuck who ended up being god.....find out the characters were completely controlled and written by Chuck. It was just getting too silly. I like a more realistic serious tone with some light humor and keep some mystery with the fictional universe. Showing all your cards or the most powerful being just kills it for me.

While I don't think the ferengi were on MCU level of silliness. I kinda agree with this. Yes it's too late to really pull back from it now. I'm guessing we get one more Deadpool film and the MCU will explode... 😂
