Berlanti Productions not being involved with this Naomi series carries greater weight than some people seem to want to acknowledge because of one simple fact: the company has been involved with the production and/or development of every comics-based television series aired on The CW with the exception of iZombie.

The fact that this Naomi series is being developed for The CW and the character's connection to Superman are not strong enough evidence to support the notion that the establishment of a connection to the Arrowverse through the inclusion of Tyler Hoechlin's version of Superman is inevitable, especially in the face of the aforementioned notability of Berlanti Productions not being involved with its production and development.

If Superman & Lois is a hit, everyone involved will be happy to play ball. Certainly DuVernay would have no reason to resist having her unknown hero’s debut launched with the assistance of an established, successful version of Superman.

Can Brandon Routh be Naomi's Superman? ;)

I find it very, very hard to believe that Hoechlin's Superman is not going to show up in this.
Plenty of shows from different producers have crossed over in the past, so it not being a Berlanti show has no impact on the chances of a crossover.
If Fox can crossover Bones and Sleepy Hollow, then there is no way The CW is not going to have their Superman in another one of the superhero shows were one of the main character's defining traits is that she's a Superman superfan.

Cool, I haven't read the comics, but I am still curious about the show.

At DC, Naomi is specifically part of the Superman family. And she is one of the most interesting original characters DC has had in years. Maybe not Damien level interesting, but more interesting than Blue Beetle or Ryan Choi's Atom whom I both like a lot. I can't see Superman not making an appearance in some form at some point. Certainly we will see him at a distance at least in the first episode, and then probably in Season 2 if the story follows the comics at all.

^ The inclusion of Superman doesn't automatically necessitate the inclusion of Tyler Hoechlin, which is the point I've been stressing.

It's far more likely, IMO, that DuVernay and her team cast the role of Supes from scratch should he show up in the series than it is that they go with an appearance from Hoechlin.

Which would be stupid since it's on the same network as Superman & Lois Lane. It's obvious, easy cross promotion for both shows, so I don't see any reason for them not to do it.

Someone's going to be so disappointed when Hoechlin shows up for his cameo.
"But... but... this isn't a Berlanti production... this is impossible!"

Yep--this is far more likely. I also see Naomi visiting the Kent farm for a bit only to find herself in crazy super hijinks.

Okay, here's the thing: Titans actually has Superman (and Wonder Woman, and Aquaman, etc.) exist in-universe without them ever showing up. As is the case with Doom Patrol. And Berlanti is involved with both of these shows. So, yes, it is possible they wouldn't use Hoechlin as the Superman in this show. They might even get away with not showing him at all, but only have merch and headlines around, maybe with pictures of his silhouette.

That's not to say I think that's what's going to happen. I also think this show will be in the Arrowverse, and they'll use Hoechlin's image and eventually cross them over. It just makes sense for The CW, and in the end they decide.

Also possible that they could rewrite Naomi's origin to be unconnected to Superman, like how the Venom and Joker movies rewrote the title characters' origins to be unconnected to Spider-Man and Batman.

Of course, I agree with you that since it's a CW show, crossovers are likely, even if it's on an alternate Earth like Stargirl is. Heck, Crisis created a precedent allowing the Arrowverse to potentially cross over with literally any DC production, and networks always like cross-promoting their shows. Plus Naomi doesn't have a lot of name recognition, so it would make sense to tie her into Superman to start with. They don't have to, but it would make sense if they did.

Well, Black Lightning was originally separate from the Arrowverse, and so was Stargirl, which we know is going to cross over. It's no surprise that the show would start out separate and making its own name, but that doesn't preclude crossovers later. Like I said, the premise of Crisis made it possible to cross over with anything DC. Or anything else, for that matter.

All the newer DC shows have been airing on HBO's services internationally(Doom Patrol, Stargirl, Batwoman, Superman & Lois), and they go to HBO Max when the season's over in the US, and I'd imagine that's the plan going forward as well, Naomi included, so I wouldn't be surprised that HBO's brass at the very least keep informed if not even have a say in these sorts of decisions.

I think I've also read something about a co-financing deal between The CW and HBO Max on a couple of upcoming CW shows.
