Morrison won't address the continuity change in Batman, Inc. He just wants to finish his run in the way he originally intended.

That is on one hand totally fine, and on the other rubs me as really messed up.

So everybody else's stories gets basically ruined, but Grant Morrison gets to finish his. Because he is special.

Given how Gail Simone's gone to the wall for them with the reboot (to the point where, if Diane Nelson's watching, she [Simone] should be offered an actual PR or editorial position), I'd say she earned a proper ending for Secret Six, rather than the okay-ish mess we got.

On the other hand, Morrison outsells Simone by maybe a factor of two or three (ETA: or, uh, five). So there's a business angle to it that can't really be argued with.

Or can it? Does Morrison outsell Simone, or does Batman outsell Secret Six? 'Cause I just looked up the sales figures on Joe the Barbarian.

I'm guessing that Grant was one of the 24 writers invited to the retreat last October and vocalized during that meeting that he wanted to finish Batman, Inc. LOL I'm looking forward to Simone's "Batgirl" run. I loved her writing of Babs in "Birds of Prey".

I'm sure she'll do a fine job, although I can't say as I'm interested in Barbara Gordon. She's one of those characters apparently lots of folks are attached to, and I have nothing against her (and am only politically upset about her re-spininating), but... yeah, she's the Batgirl who doesn't have an inflicted learning disorder and has never even thought about getting an abortion. So, like, the least interesting.

At least Paul Cornell got to finish his Luthor epic. And as far as I know Chris Roberson got to finish crying into Straczynski's "notes."

But as I understand it, a lot of books got completely waylaid. Scott Snyder's (wretched-sounding) (what is it, Detective?) Saw/Red Dragon story apparently finished in a blind rush, according to a few reviews I've read, for example.

I've been excited for Batman: Earth One since it was first announced (and have kept on nattering about it since ) and looked forward to it more than Superman: Earth One which I still enjoyed. Gary Frank drawing Batman is one of the reasons why I'm excited.

Extra fairness: I think Gary Frank's idiosyncrasies will play much better in Gotham than Metropolis, and perhaps be a strength.

Flashpoint #5 will have a two-page spread that is supposed to explain how we got from the DCU to the DCnU, probably along the lines of the two-page spread in Amazing Spider-Man a couple of years ago that laid out the post-"One More Day" status quo.

I think this was brought up a few pages back. I think with some of the books, DC is having different artists on different issues to make sure they can ultimately avoid delays for the first couple of months while the relaunch gets underway.

Yeah, I think I saw that. I thought what was most interesting in the Bleeding Cool article, the exclusive Marvel artist who seems to be working for DC.

I wonder if any artists can still pull off the "Mike Esposito/Mickey Demeo" situation, in which they use different names for different companies...

I thought it was Ron Marz who first started that dynamic. During Hal's funeral, Robin commented that they weren't sitting with the others, which confused him, because he thought Bruce knew Hal. Bruce responded, "I thought I did, Robin. Then he turned into someone else. I find it...difficult...to accept his actions, no matter what steps he took to redeem himself. We're here to honor his memory, and I will do so, but I doubt I'll ever be able to excuse what he did."

Johns just continued that dynamic once Hal came back. They did reconcile in Green Lantern #9 and in the Mark Waid Brave and the Bold, they were chilly, but still worked well together. Going by the preview of the new Justice League, it seems that Johns is continuing to cast them as polar opposites, right from the beginning.

I am , but not for some grand protest of the change. I won't be reading because I don't find any of the new books interesting. None of the descriptions I have read thus far interest me.

Johns has written Batman before on numerous occasions (Flash, GL, Infinite Crisis, etc). However, Bats was rarely the main focus.

Well Simone was kind of shown her place when she was taken off Wonder Woman (where she had been doing a great job IMO) and replaced by someone else whose run DC really promoted in a way it would be hard to not take a little personally. Sort of like, "Yes, DC fans, we know WW has sucked for years but not anymore thanks to JMS!" (This is assuming Simone didn't want to leave WW. I don't read everything and if that's the case, then my previous assumption is crap.)

After that, I would assume that since she seems to love writing for DC, she put aside whatever feelings she had and played the good employee to make sure she could keep writing there. And if she didn't want to leave WW, that puts even more of a spin on it. Here's someone who has already had one of her titles taken away and "rebooted/relaunched" by someone else pre-"official reboot/relaunch," so the second time around it probably doesn't sting as much. The second time in a year. And she also gets the opportunity to work on other titles that wouldn't have had a chance to without the relaunch (I'm thinking Firestorm), so I don't have a hard time believing that she is genuine about being excited for at least some of the aspects of the relaunch.

I think she is very professional and if DC asked her to write a story about a transsexual Bat-girl who do not fight crime but instead sat in doors self-harming she be doing interviews saying that it was a natural direction for the character and she was really pleased. I take no more from her on-line persona than that.
