DC to REBOOT???

Wow does the new 52 commercial suck all kinds of lame. They are actually going to show that somewhere? With all the material at hand and thats the best they can do, well I am very disgusted with that effort.

At lunch I looked at JLA #60 and there Dick and Donna turn out the lights and adjourn this incarnation of the JLA and there is zero indication he's not going to be Batman going forward after that issue either.

Geeze, how many "new" JLs have there been since the Crisis?

It sounds like, from comments made about Dick and Barbara, that even the in-continuity changes are going to happen between stories.

I've seen worse. I figured it would be actually annoying or at least embarrassing. It's just kind of dull. Which may be worse than being atrocious, I suppose.

Red Robin has been the most interesting of the Bat books lately, so I'm a bit disappointed that his comic is ending. Though, I hold out hope that Teen Titans will center around the continuation of his character arc.

^I don't think any of the character arcs are continuing from the solo books into the new continuity. Again the team of Teen Titans being introduced in the relaunch are meeting each other for the first time. DC has been very clear about this aspect of that book.

While I'm surprised they didn't elect to have some sort of voice over, the commercial does what it set out to do. This is a book, after all. They are not the easiest things to create TV ads for. Making it more difficult is that it is a line of 52 books.

Are there artist problems?

On Blackhawks, each of the first three issues, have three different artists. The best...

Alessandro Vitti (the third artist) has been an exclusive creator with Marvel Comics and is midway through a contract.

Nevertheless, DC have solicited his name on Blackhawks #3.

DC seems to think he accepted the deal. Vitti seems to think he turned it down.

Sounds like things are well in hand in the DCU....

I think this was brought up a few pages back. I think with some of the books, DC is having different artists on different issues to make sure they can ultimately avoid delays for the first couple of months while the relaunch gets underway.

Yeah, I think I saw that. I thought what was most interesting in the Bleeding Cool article, the exclusive Marvel artist who seems to be working for DC.

Looks like it was a contract and mis-communication thing that didn't quite work out. I bet this stuff happens all the time.

ARE they though? How many have left? Or saying they are leaving?

Well, assuming there are no time-travellers in DC's readership, I would assume the latter. I'm not leaving till the last issues of Action and Detective come out next week or the week after, either and I highly doubt many die-hards are dropping DC before getting the final issues, if they're going to drop it. All I'm going by are forum posts, blog reactions, and the fact at least two comic shops in my area are worried (and retailers would have a more firm grasp of trends than any of us outside the business), the fact DC's people are going to rather great lengths - almost to the "thou doth protest too much" level in trying to "reassure" people about the reboot (just read the end matter on the last few issues of any DC title).

So no, I'm fully expecting to be, as usual, disenfranchised and be one of a few. Just like with 3-D movies. All I can do is vote with my wallet. I bought $60 worth of comics today. $50 of that was DC. I usually average $40 but there were a couple of specials I bought too. If I drop DC, do the math.

I'm not a fortune teller, or a time traveller, so I can only cite what I'm seeing in terms of trends. And what I and others say holds as much weight ahead of the fact as those claiming any losses will be a "drop in the bucket" too, unless they've got a TARDIS hidden in their backyard. Solicitations from stores are meaningless, and so will be the first couple of months of sales and downloads. The true tale of the tape will be in 6 months or so as I said earlier and we'll see who is proven right.

Bear in mind, forgetting the renumbering issue and the cancellation of titles, and the recasting of characters, there's still also the question as to whether any of these 52 titles are actually going to be any good or not. If the reboot from a quality perspective ends up being 52 kinds of suck, or 52 Eisner Award potentials, that'll change the whole ballgame.

Are they squeezing another issue of Detective out? I thought 881 was the final issue. Not that I'd mind another one.

^ I was under the impression that last week's issue was the finale as well. It wrapped up Dick's tenure as Batman pretty well as well as not giving an explanation of his transition to Nightwing. I'm thinking we're just going to be jumping into the new reality when the relaunch starts.

Maybe there will be a panel or two in the final issue of Flashpoint*. But I was hoping for a lot more than that. There's also the possibility of it being dealt with in flashbacks of some sort in the new titles (or maybe something in Batman, Inc?). I'm trying to be optimistic, though. I don't know what use it is "keeping the continuity" of certain titles if you decide to just skip over parts of the story. I mean how many issues did we get dealing with Dick getting used to being Batman? And we also got the lovely Battle for the Cowl miniseries. Ha ha.

*I'm sort of joking but wouldn't be surprised if something like this happened.

Morrison won't address the continuity change in Batman, Inc. He just wants to finish his run in the way he originally intended.

I was thinking maybe there was a chance he shoehorned it into the one-shot coming this fall. That would be the last pre-relaunch tale published. But I'm sure you're right.

My point really is: how many, who have SAID they will quit, will ACTUALLY quit?

The internet is never hysterical. About anything. There is never hyperbole on the internet...

and the fact at least two comic shops in my area are worried (and retailers would have a more firm grasp of trends than any of us outside the business),

True. However, I bet they are actually more worried about digital distribution than the reboot.

This reboot--er, relaunch--is a great way for DC to get the word out about digital distribution, which for all printed material is going up.

That might be why the brick and mortar stores are worried... and not the reboot. How many have they gone through and survived?

the fact DC's people are going to rather great lengths - almost to the "thou doth protest too much" level in trying to "reassure" people about the reboot (just read the end matter on the last few issues of any DC title).

So... an IF for you, as in, undecided... ok.

Emphasis mine.

So, in other words, if it's good, you'll stay. That makes sense.

But, then, even if they didn't reboot, would you have stayed if DC started sucking? Yes? No?

Obviously, they are hypothetical questions. But, when I hear general fanboy whining and foot stamping "I'm quitting DC!" and then it turns into... "Well, I'm quitting DC if this reboot isn't very good." It sorta loses it's power.
