DC to REBOOT???

Yeah the quotes from the various sites were funny. Comics Alliance though is correct. If this backfires on DC it will fuck them up pretty bad for a few years. I presume though that they could just come up with some kind of event and revert everything back to the way it was before the relaunch happens.

Midtown Comics Online is having a deal where all of the DC #1s in September are 35% off for pre-order. This is going to allow me to get all of the books I was slightly interested in. Hopefully I don't like them all so I can drop...

^ Yes, unfortunately I do.
Hypertime was a great idea, both because it makes a certain amount of sense and also because it answers continuity complaints with "shut up," which is the only sane response.

Then again, I also thought that "reality punches" had a certain dumb Silver Age charm to them.

It was a good idea if they stuck with it, I don't think that's been the case though. They came up with the concept of the 52 Earth's I believe to succeed the concept of Hypertime didn't they?

i'm not sure why they kicked Hypertime aside. it seemed the easiest way to explain continuity goofs.

I thought Waid and Morrison had an idea for a Hypertime mini-series to fully explain everything, but it never got off the ground

The Wiki for Hypertime asserts that everything happened, including the various TV and movie projects. My understanding was that it was limited to comics. I can buy Hypertime explaining the Silver Age Krypton, Byrne's Krypton, etc., but it just seems silly to include the TV and movie projects, in my opinion.

Though not called Hypertime, Morrison does apply the "it all happened" paradigm with his Batman work.

Yeah there was some sort of mini-series planned post "The Kingdom" that would explain Hypertime and IIRC it had something to do with the nature of the Speed Force. Somehow that was linked into Hypertime as well. I'm assuming that whatever that project was going to be morphed into "Multiversity". Still wanting to know the status of that project from Morrison and Johns. I assume that it has either been cancelled, pushed back, or being reworked to reflect the relaunch. It was going to be the major summer event from DC this year.

My approach to comics and other fictional worlds were fans get hung up on continuity or canon for the past few years has been:

Did I enjoy it? — yes, next question.
Does it matter if it fits within the C-word? — no, because I enjoyed it.

Did I enjoy it? — no, next question.
Does it matter if it fits within the C-word? — not in the slightest.

My brain didn't explode after CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS, or ZERO HOUR, or INFINITE CRISIS. I can live with this latest change too. Especially at this point where we really don't know what's actually changed and what hasn't.

I know it's betraying the internet, but I refuse to take up the mantle of Jump To Conclusions Lad.

^ We know some of what hasn't changed but yeah, I have your mentality. I'm actually rather interested in some of this stuff.

I suppose it does. It was a good interview. He still seemed a bit vague on Cassie though but it does seem like these are all the same characters just they're giving some a different origin while maintaining others. It seems like at least for the start of this relaunch we're going to have a weird floating timeline, meaning some stories will take place in the past of this new relaunched continuity while others will be in the newly established present.

On a side question, I wonder how quickly they will race Flashpoint to a collected edition. Generally, a hardcover (which FP will certainly be) is released about 6 months or so after the final issue. But given that FP leads into the DCnU, I wonder if it will get a quicker release.
