DC to REBOOT???

The whole Superboy on the team because we honor and respect who he becomes later never really worked for me. Its better that they honor the legend of the man without ever meeting and working with the as yet unproven boy. Also to much well we cant tell him that yet or then we have to wipe his mind stuff.

All of this talk of the LOSH, makes me think this reboot is a perfect time for DC to role out what I know would be a hit: the ongoing Matter Eater Lad series.

That sounds very nice on paper.

In actual execution it just didn't work.

Every time I hear about Matter-Eater Lad, I'm reminded of the issue of Secret Origins from the 1980s featuring the Legion of Substitute Heroes. Ral Benem (Chlorophyll Kid) is flunking out of school and thinks to himself, "They're going to put me in the special class with that kid from Bismoll who kept eating the chalk."

Yeah, having Superboy on the team really forced alot of "reset button" moments. Just use Monel/Mon'El/Valor whatever they're calling him this week.

LOSH: Secret Origin huh. Right after we just got a whole arc of their origin retconned last year. Sigh. I dunno how I feel about it this. I guess this means I don't have to pick up that TPB anymore thanks to this storyline then. I like Superboy being part of the Legion (in the minority it seems) they both inspire each other. Superboy is inspired by them while the Legion in turn is inspired by what he will eventually become. I thought Geoff Johns did a good job of showing this when he restored the Silver Age team. Tossing Superboy out serves no purpose except ignoring the history he has with the team but we know now that it would seem DC seems to not care about their past. The fact that this is still the Silver Age team makes me think nothing like this will happen.

Hah! :)

Isn't the period that Keith Gieffen was writing LoSH? Great stuff, that.

Dude. That's a series I would buy: Matter Eater Lad AND Chlorophyll Kid! It's like the Blue and Gold of our time!

i'm with you. i prefer Superboy with the Legion. its difficult to separate the two from each other, at least its difficult to separate them and have it make sense.

Is there still room for Arms-Fall-Off-Boy?

Have what make sense? What inherent to the Legion requires Superboy? I just don't get this.
Nothin'. My only interest in Superboy-as-a-Legionnaire is that he makes a decent viewpoint character, but about five thousand science fiction stories, including a fair number of Legion stories, militate against the idea that a character from the 21st century is required.

Speaking of Mon-El, what's his deal these days? Was he still stuck in the Phantom Zone for 1000 years through profound Superdickery?*

*Seriously, this is almost certainly the worst thing Superman has ever done.

Praetor Shinzon said:
well, didn't the Legion originally form because they were inspired by Superboy/Superman?

The Legion initially formed (in, afaik, every version) because Cosmic Fanboy Rokk Krinn really liked 20th/21st century superheroes and/or superhero comics, and after realizing that his natural Ian MacKellan powers made him king shit anywhere else other than his homeworld, hooked up with Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl through a contrived series of events. I'm summarizing a bit, of course. But the point is, Superman doesn't even really have to exist for the Legion to make sense.
