I'm thinking at the end of Flashpoint #5 when the world gets reset, some of the characters are in a protective bubble and come out the same (probably Batman and Green Lantern) while the rest of them will suffer from a little "reality wall punching".
I still can't believe JLI isn't being handled by G and dM and also Kevin Maguire just pay him what he wants. I mean, Dan Jurgens? There's a creator who speaks to the youth of today.
I was really disappointed with the news of Jurgens handling JLI.
The Superman books flailed badly in the post-Zero Hour period. Some of it was editorial -- the Clark/Lois relationship had to go on hiatus because of Lois & Clark. But there were also some underwhelming creative teams on the books, like Ron Frenz on Superman. Then we had the utterly absurd Superman Red/Superman Blue storyline, which was easily the nadir of post-Crisis Superman stories.Jurgens, to me, represents the less talked about side of superhero comics in the 90's. We all know about the excesses, such as the specialty covers and gimmicks (both with the covers and with the writing), but on the other hand, I think Dan Jurgens' writing remained too traditional. He worked on Superman at a time when the creators would spend just as much time on the secret identities as they did on the heroics. Not that this is a bad thing, in and of itself, but it lead to a lot of soap operatics, such as the period of time when Clark and Lois split up.
I blame Norm Rapmund's inking for the "blandness" of Jurgens' recent art. Pair Jurgens with Art Thibert or Brett Breeding, and his art is crisper. But it's true that he's always been a little bland, and only got blander with age. Can anyone rattle off one Dan Jurgens line that they thought was especially clever or cool?** This in contrast to Giffen and deMatteis, who became bawdier. Even his art became blander! (In his defense, like Jim Lee, he's another victim of the kirlian aura school of computer coloring. SHINY!)
That's actually probably more like it. Booster Gold does sort of work with shininess, but he's actually meant to be shiny.I blame Norm Rapmund's inking for the "blandness" of Jurgens' recent art. The problem is that fans wont stop demanding "their" version of the character come back. And some of them get to write or edit comic books.I still say it could be simplified in an elegant way.
But that's what they all say, I guess.
Well. I did read The Years of Rice and Salt. Great Book!
No idea if Daniel and Tan will do the serial reincarnation thing. As you said, that was the schtick that Robinson and Johns ( plus those that followed) played with in the last go round. Including the Silver Age and Hawkworld versions in that "series" has a couple of problems:
1) They're aliens
2) There's not enough time between them for one to die, be reborn as the other and age to an adult.
The 10,000 matter when the one person making decision listens to or is one of them.
