DC Cinematic Universe ( The James Gunn era)

for me, Affleck is the closest approximation to Bruce Wayne we've gotten on the big screen so far, in terms of looks and stature.

Hmm, I would've said that was George Clooney. I feel he's the only live-action Bruce Wayne whose face has the right square-jawed shape. It's true that Affleck is the tallest live-action Batman, the only one taller than Bruce Wayne's official 6'2" height, but that's hard to see onscreen, and Clooney's 5'11" isn't far off.

...then at the end you've got F4 which seems to be the first Marvel movie since DP&WV that people are actually interested in seeing.
There are literally only two other movies between those two and one of them hasn't come out yet (and plenty of people are excited for it).

Ben Affleck said:
I had a really good time. I loved doing the Batman movie. I loved Batman v Superman. And I liked my brief stints on The Flash that I did and when I got to work with Viola Davis on Suicide Squadfor a day or two.
Weirdly, he doesn't say that he loved doing Justice League. :shifty: :D

He was. I think Affleck was talking about the experience of being on the set in addition to what he was able to do with the Batman character.

Totally. From what I gathered, almost none of the actors involved enjoyed the experience. But this was mostly because of WB and Whedon.

I thought he felt completely checked out in both versions of JL. But less so in the Snyder version, I assume for obvious reasons.

That's fair. I saw something different but it's all good.

I really enjoyed his take on an older Batman, and for me, Affleck is the closest approximation to Bruce Wayne we've gotten on the big screen so far, in terms of looks and stature.

Affleck was the perfect older, intolerant Wayne / Batman. In addition to Bale's version--the younger / building years Wayne / Batman, they defined the character in live action, leaving all other actors in the dust, or through comparison, exposed the glaring miscasting in many cases.

I know it's too late now but they really picked a bad release date for Superman. It's going to get trampled by Jurassic Park at the start of the month and then at the end you've got F4 which seems to be the first Marvel movie since DP&WV that people are actually interested in seeing.

Not sure if JP will have that kind of juice this year, but releasing a troubled Superman production (screening reports have not been promising or kind) against the first MCU version of the Fantastic Four seems like a set-up for disaster.

Eh, Affleck was solid enough. For all Snyder’s failings, his casting choices were mostly good-to-great. Cavill was the major exception.

Lol. People give Gadot a lot of guff over that moment, but I thought it was fine. She was on the “great” end among Snyder’s casting choices.

I liked the entire cast of Justice League. Personal issues and real life aside, on screen on thought they embodied their characters well. Flash was more of a Bart than a Barry but I didn't mind that.

Like most of them, Cavill was often undermined by the movies. But his performance outshined Affleck's at every turn, even if that wasn't always saying much. Still, MoS is definitely by far the best film Snyder made when it comes to performances specifically.

Flash was more of a Bart than a Barry but I didn't mind that.

Grant Gustin's Barry Allen was arguably more like Wally West. And John Wesley Shipp's Barry borrowed character attributes and supporting cast from Wally as well.

There were times that I wished Gustin's Flash had been explicitly a sequel to the 1990 series from the start (rather than retconning it in as a parallel universe later), and that Gustin had been Wally West taking over the Flash identity from Shipp's Barry Allen. Although he would've had to have a different character than Iris West as his love interest, obviously.

I liked Cavill as Superman tremendously. I don't think much of the Snyderverse in general but agree that the casting was first rate.

Warners made quite a bit of coin on mediocre superhero movies that underperformed, and it was all down to the casts. Without Momoa. Aquaman would have tanked harder than Green Lantern.

Out of Snyder's DC superhero stuff specifically, or out of all Snyder films?

The DCEU stuff. I haven't seen all his other films. Though I could throw 300 and that Netflix zombie film on the pile, I suppose. I can't really remember what I thought of the performances in Watchmen anymore. It's been well over a decade since I last saw it and it wasn't as ridiculously over the top as 300.
