Data Looked Great in Command Red

Was watching the two parter Chain of Command...and noticed how damn cool Data looked wearing the command red while acting executive officer after Captain Hardass removed Riker from duty. Its really too bad we never got to see more of this side of Data. Also as a very small change to Nemesis I would have had Picard promote Data already and him wearing the three pips and red undershirt.

In my current quest to watch TNG and DS9 chronologically, I came upon "I, Borg" last night. There was a wonderful moment of Data as pseudo-XO that I had not noticed before.

Riker is down on the moon, having just discovered the injured Borg. Picard finished talking to him, and clearly uncomfortable, walks into his Ready Room. Data turns around to watch, and then looks over at Troi, wordlessly telling her to follow.

It was a very human moment, and showing once again that Data deserved to be a First Officer.

I think it's a pity he didn't wear the red in 'The Gambit', despite being first, Acting First Officer and then, Acting Captain. 'Chain of Command' was made after 'The Gambit', possibly the Trek staff felt the same way and decided to give Data another shot in the red.

Yeah Gambit did come later but I think him wearing red in CoC was to show Jellico's rigid following of protocol and decorum.

Ya, he does look great in red.

Would he look good in blue too?

Lets find out!

^Wow, they look cool. Although i think he looks best in his orginal gold uniform.

*sigh* is there anything photshop can't do?

The blue is a little too turquoise. The blue of the TNG uniform is significantly darker. Otherwise, pretty cool work. :)

Data was originally supposed to be in a Blue Science Uniform, but they thought it clashed too much with his makeup so they put him in Gold and made up the "Operations" post as an explanation.

Same reason the Command colors are now red, it's because Patrick Stewart and Jonathan Frakes didn't look that good in Gold so they chnaged the color to red.

Mmmm. If memory serves, Bruce Maddox in 'The Measure of a Man' had a blue uniform. And there was a quarter-Romulan ensign in 'The Drumhead' - as well as probably a few other guest characters and extras.

And Bashir wore it in his first scene in 'Emissary', the DS9 pilot.

Any chance of getting some of the other cast in different uniforms? I always wondered what Beverly would like in command red...

^ Hot...same with Deanna! Great work, too bad you couldn't alter his pips and make him a Captain. Didn't know they originally wanted to use the original division color schemes.

Yeah, originaly the division colors where going to be the same but someone (either Gene or a costuming person) decided Frakes and Stewart looked better in red than in mustard. So the change was made. I think it works better red, to me, is a "more commanding" color than yellow/mustard is.

Hmmm. I wonder what TOS Kirk would look like in red and the red-shirts in yellow? Despite wearing red as a much older man in the TOS movies I don't see it working on Kirk in TOS, or mustard working on Scotty and Uhura.

The blue/teal/cyan/whatever color REALLY wasn't Stewart's for damn sure.
