Cyfa's art challenges and other bits & bobs

Oh, wow, thank you everyone for the likes and comments! I'm glad you like it - I was a bit worried that the costume was too basic, and some of the subject matter too obscure, but clearly I needn't've worried - you're all so forgiving and encouraging. Thank you! :adore:

Have you added some sutble folding to those parasites or it just shading, there definitely appears to be a 3d quality to them.
- Ah, good eye, Starscape! Yes, I scored around the edges of the parasites and the centreline of their pincers then folded them in/down a bit to give a bit of depth. It's not as noticeable as I would have liked in these photos, but it'll do :)

So, here's my final piece - a photo from the second batch, taken from a higher angle. I call it "The Takers of Gist" which is how the parasite in "Sins of the Mother" described itself to Audrid Dax.

It's been almost a year, so I thought I'd better revive this thread - if only to serve as a kind of personal prompt to actually do something for this month's challenge. Here are the somewhat half-hearted efforts at Trek art I've made for the last two challenges:

Uhura, for the August challenge: "Hailing Frequencies Closed":

I had an idea for September's "TOS Anniversary" - the Ardanan floating city, Stratos - which didn't pan out, so ended up submitting a beach-made sculpture-type thing of the TOS engineering insignia instead.

I have an idea for this month's "Pre-Warp History" challenge: A Betazoid woman wearing a wig containing a small caged animal - a traditional form of dress that one formidable woman put a stop to. I'm not sure how I'm going to do it yet, though...

Oh, thank you, @Laura Cynthia Chambers! I've not seen this movie. I wonder if one of the writers of "Half a Life" had seen it though, and remembered the cage-in-a-wig thing for Lwaxana?
(Although, they could have been equally inspired by the 18th century pouf hairstyles)

You're welcome. Having added that entry to the MA page (I had to check to make sure, but, yeah, I did), after all. The description, by the way, would certainly fit Ball...

Sexy muscle-goat man Knicknack is Furry bait. Wonder when we'll see the first fan drawings.
- Well, I couldn't find any others (but I didn't look that hard, and I haven't searched today yet), so here's a quick little sketch I did a couple of days ago after seeing your comment. I refined it a bit yesterday after I'd looked at the screen caps at Cygnus-X1, but I'm going to try and get some caps of my own later, as there's a split second flash of Knicknac's pert little bum - which looks better than Ransom's!  :rommie:

P.S. I hope you don't mind me replying here, @Markonian - I didn't want to derail the episode thread.

Here's a v.quick realisation of an idea I had for this month's Art Challenge: Pre-warp History. It's supposed to be a Betazoid aristocrat from the point in Betazed's history when women wore wigs with caged animals inside (as mentioned by Lwaxana in TNG: "Half a Life").
I based it on a sketch I did back in February of one of Lwaxana's relatives (possibly her mother or aunt) that was intended to illustrate the backstory I came up with for my May 2019 Art Challenge treasure map (needless to say, I didn't progress any further with the illustrations). I attempted a Lower Decks-style character so I wouldn't have to draw a realistic face (because I'm rubbish at faces).

On the left is the original sketch from Feb. Middle is the inked line drawing (which I started colouring in before I remembered to take a photo). And right is the rather stern looking coloured version (I was a bit heavy-handed with the eye make-up :rommie:)

Cool, now THAT's a crazy cat lady.. ;) :D
What's the little critter supposed to be? Looks like Alf crossed with a guinea pig.
Ha ha haa! Maybe the critter's a Betazoid cat? (But I do see the ALF/Guinea pig likeness) To be honest, I have no idea what it is. I just drew a smaller version of the Yehtee attendant from my Feb sketch.

I like to imagine that the little guy is actually in charge and the person is just a mount.
I think many of these high society aristocrats are so vacuous that it wouldn't surprise me if they were 'steered' by their wig captives!

This is why the first aristocrat is looking so cross - her rather half-hearted wig has been shown up by a Daughter of the Second House wearing a bigger, more elaborate wig! It's Betazed itself complete with moving (flying) continents and its three moons (Avendar, Merandar, and Keylandar).

I've got a busy week coming up, so as it's been raining all day here today, I took advantage of having to be indoors and hastily slapped this together for this month's art challenge:

As almost nothing has been shown of Betazed's culture (in televised Star Trek), I didn't have a lot to choose from to make this recognisably Betazoid (excuses, excuses... ;)). However, TNG: "Menage a Troi" did supply the muktok plant (right), the tall pink plant, and the architectural style of the 'castle'; TNG: "Genesis" supplied the frog (as Troi was 'devolving' into some sort of amphibian); and Lwaxana's comment in TNG: "Half a Life" was the entire basis for the bewigged aristocrat. Oh, and the asymmetry of the dress's neckline is taken from Troi's turquoise dress.
I'm not going to do a background because I'm a bit tired now, which means I'll almost certainly ruin it if I attempt to do so :)

I love not only how you nailed the art style, but most of all how this person is somehow dignified and ridiculous at the same time. Like a mix between lwaxana troi and roger from american dad.

Thanks, @Santaman and @MisterD :D

Keeping with the LDS art style... It's my friend's birthday today, so I turned him into a Lower Decks captain (he's a bigger trek nerd than me!)

This was based on a photo of him from a couple of months back. I did apologise to him for the boggly eye...
