The USA is a huge landmass.
There are people that drive hours to just get to the grocery stores and longer to a medical facility. It's not all about numbers, that is short sightedness to the extreme.
There are way more variables that a percentage. Think about it.

It's a deep nose and throat swab (x2) and it has to be done by a A Nursing Professional to insure accuracy.
Mailed out kits are not even a thing, unless there are folks taking advantage of the utter ignorance that is out there.
In which case, go ahead and waste your money.

You really haven't thought this through, have you? Anyone in the continental US is only a few hours away from someplace that can do the test, at most. As opposed to anyone in Korea being maybe 15 minutes away from someplace they can get the test. That simply isn't enough travel time difference to account for the differences in testing efficiency.

Folks who don't have even a slight medical clue, really shouldn't be offering advice.

I personally think the closures hVe gone a bit too far.

It really isn't, given what we know about the virus, that people can catch it via close proximity. Not everyone has a good immune system, and given that someone may carry it with them and not know it and then pass it on, it puts those with weaker immune systems at risk. This is why social distancing is so important right now and why it's important to avoid large crowds. All it takes is for one person to be that person and not practice good hygiene to spoil it for the rest of a crowd. I have a friend who has a husband suffering from cancer at the moment, and she is very scared because of how fragile his immune system is. Just going to work has meant for her to disinfect everything at both her workplace and at home, so no, I really don't think the closures have gone too far.

Your figures support the 0.02% mortality rate I referenced earlier. To reiterate, the *conservative* estimate of the COVID-19 mortality rate is currently fifty times worse than this. The last official number I read from the WHO is 170 times worse than this.

Those of us who are now and going to be on the front lines of this in the next few weeks and months, are scared and worried for everybody's loved-ones who we'll be taking care of and responsible for their very lives.

This seems like an appropriate time to say thank you to everyone involved in the health care profession, who are out there every day, potentially putting themselves at risk, in order to try to keep us all healthy, and care for us when we are not.

No, you'd think half the population was at risk of falling ill at the same time. They don't have to die before it's a serious problem. You think we can operate normally if 50% of medical professionals are out of commission? 50% of law enforcement or emergency services? 50% of utilities? What'll you do if your power goes out and there's no one to repair it?

Here's a hypothetical scenario. Say you go see a movie, and someone (#1) in your row sneezes. About a week earlier, this same person (#1) went to the airport to welcome a close friend (#2) back from a trip abroad, say Italy, where unbeknown to them, they picked up a virus that was quickly spreading. Back at the airport, #2 goes to the washroom and touches the door handles and the faucet. While having dinner with #1, they maybe share an intimate moment, and unknowingly, #2 passes the virus on to #1. While not knowing it, when at the movie theatre, #1 very likely passed on the virus to everyone else within a certain radius.

In Canada right now, what they're doing is trying to identify the people and places those who've been tested positive have come into contact with in order to try to identify some vectors. This is why it's all the more important to just stay away from crowds at the moment.
