Chakotay and Seven Romance

No, just no. That out-of-the-blue relationship felt utterly contrived to me.

In fact, I'd almost say that pairing 7 with any cast member instead of Chak would have been preferable ... including the females

I think that it would have been interesting (and funny) if Seven and Harry had hooked up on the down low.
It turns out that Harry is always so jittery because he's actually a virgin. He and Seven decide to approach remedying the virgin situation for both of them by viewing it as a learning experience. They do research by watching old classic romantic movies together. Then they recreate the date portion of the movie on the holodeck. Where they eventually end the date by having sex. For example: they recreate "Casablanca" with them being the two lead characters. Except this time Rick gets the girl.

I was perfectly happy for Seven to not be paired with anyone. The woman still had issues and had no business being in a relationship until she experienced some more emotional maturity....but that's just me.

Pretty much everyone who has ever watched Voyager feels the same way. They had no chemistry. There's a rumor that Robert Beltran complained so much about his lack of character development that in order to shut him up, they gave Chakotay a romance with Seven.

But I've also heard that neither actors had any idea of an impending romance and both were stunned.

Either way, I like to pretend that it didn't happen. Or that Chakotay was having a mid-life crisis.

My recollection is that both actors were in fact frustrated because they *did* call it early, having seen a subtext in the script for the episode ''Natural Law'' (where Seven and Chuckles are stranded together for a while after a shuttle crash), and each had asked the producers if they should play it like a budding romance, only to be specifically told not to... and then, upon discovering in the series final that they were going to be paired up, Beltran and Ryan were both pissed off that they might've had the chance to seed the romance a little earlier than they did, if only the producers had've actually let them play it that way more back in ''Natural Law''.

As it is, the 'romance' just suddenly appears out of nowhere, and the audience were left scratching our heads.

Okay. I knew that I was kind of close.

I think it could've been interesting, depending on whether the actors had actual chemistry. Seven romanced holo-chakotay when her brain malfunctioned so it could've been slowly built up if they could be bothered.

Honestly, if I were Chakotay, I would be weirded out by the fact that, before she dated me, my girlfriend attempted to date a holographic version of me.

Really?

I only reason I can live with myself, is by imagining that when most people make love to their pillow at night, that they call it "Guy".

Seriously, after what Dee thought Barclay did in Holo-Pursuits (that he didn't actually do).

Rules would have been made.

Maybe that's how Chakotay got a first date?

"Look, either I can send you to jail for a couple years for holosexfraud, or you can let me get to first base after we've finished three bottles of wine."

As far as rules/laws being made, if their were barriers in place to make using Chakotay difficult, maybe she had his permission to use his likeness for stuff like sex? Actually if the Library Computer was going to fight her, to try and stop her from using Chakotay's likeness, or alert the authorities that she was r... That's criminal degree hacking?

No, I don't think she asked for permission from Chakotay, but if Deanna did make a stink, all the library computers that might scan for illegal use of the likeness of real people and ask the violated parties how they want to proceed legally, or if they they want to proceed legally.

This could be the 24th century's Tinder?

Status creating.

Wouldn't it be ego building to know how many/much of the crew are sleeping with a duplicate of you and how often? (Or creepy. Obviously there would have to be an opt out function.)

Of course after you start sleeping a lot with the likeness of someone who is sleeping with the likeness of you a lot, well it seems that perhaps that the two of you should go on a real date since there seems to be some sort of mutual affection and attraction in play?

THIS is why Voyager had no babies in 7 years!

(Lizard babies were conceived and born on a shuttle, Miral was born in the AQ, Lynnis was redacted from time, Naomi was conceivedin the AQ. Seska wasn't on Voyager for all of her pregnancy.)

I was appalled by it. After everything Seven went through she ends up being punished by being paired with the boring block of wood. A terrible way to conclude the storyline of arguably the most interesting and popular character. Reassimilation would have been kinder.

Chakotay and Seven pairing up didn't bother me in the slightest.

Consenting adults have the right to choose to be with whomever they want. People often choose those who others don't think are right for them. That's real life. I see this as an instance of that. If these characters like each other that way, then that's who they are.

The surprise aspect of not really seeing it coming is also akin to real life. It's really no one's business but there's, so why should anyone else see it coming?

Playing it that way, as something between Chakotay and Seven that only they understand, neatly torpedoes everyone else's interest in who Seven ends up with and makes her her own person. Doing things for her own personal reasons is a nice completion of her arc to become human again and an individual. I thought Seven covertly beaming into Chuckles' quarters was kinda cool. Clearly, that underscored the privacy angle.

So, I guess I really am in the minority!

Admiral Janeway only felt like preserving a future where these two hook up.

Any failed attempt to save the crew before End Game would have also added the bonus busy work of matchmaking these two people.

Easily the most unsuccessful chemistry experiment in Trek history. I didn't buy it for a moment . . . and the "Natural Law" business makes it even worse.

Seriously, they were marooned on jungle planet together--and there wasn't even a hint of sexual tension or hanky-panky. (Somewhere Captain Kirk was rolling in his grave . ...)

And, only a few episodes later, they're supposedly having this great romance?

Maybe it was regret?

Um.

I was thinking it was something about the cold.

Seven can survive in a space.

She probably has a thermostat inside her.

How cold was was Chakotay in Natural Law when they were sleeping out side, looking covetously over there at that human radiator.

Oh?

Technology didn't work?

So, this was the first since she was 8 that Anika had felt the cold?

Wow.

They would have spooned so hard.

Y'see a woman can understandably need heat in a situation like this, but a man is always a pervert.

Stoopid double standard.

The chemistry in "Natural Law" is entirely between Seven and the native girl.

The only looks of desire that Seven directs at Chakotay are entirely based on his wooden flammability.

Remember the time Chakotay tried to kill Seven by blowing her out into space? Definitely the foundation of a strong and long lasting relationship.

I applaud you for your courage and critical discernment. :techman:

As she joins his tribe, she gets a tattoo, but as he joins her tribe, he gets a cortical node.

Stupid men are too stupid to accurately access this woman and her baggage.

They think she's an amusement park, when I can assure you that she is a parking lot.

Sexually that is.

I think Chakotay would have left her before she left him, because she is not human and has no respect for how humans live.
